Store bought Christmas cookie question
Re: Store bought Christmas cookie question
Up here Fred Meyer and Kroger are synonymous so maybe it's the same in your area with another store?noiseredux wrote:I love you, homey.fastbilly1 wrote:To bump this back up after five years - the answer was Kroger Brand "Holiday Celebration" Cookies. According to the GM of my local Kroger, they swapped from a bag to a box in the late 90s.
Is it possible that this generic brand was 'shared' by other markets as well? Because I definitely remember the same exact cookies you describe from my own childhood, and yet we had no Krogers anywhere near us that I knew of.

Same here, curse you fast for the 5 year hiatus and then waiting until February to post a Christmas cookie.samsonlonghair wrote:Damnit, now I want cookies.
Now I have to wait until next December to see this cookie, Kroger is Food4Less and Ralphs stores in my area. I could not even find a Google image of it, can you post a picture so we can virtual taste it at least?

Oh and speaking of cookies I screwed up and passed up on this. Costco recently started selling a cookie (Keebler) that look very very similar to a Girl Scout cookie. I'm going there today due to a sudden cookie craving!

Came out just before the annual Girl Scout cookie sales. No worries, I'll buy some of the other flavors from the kids too.

Wait a minute that Keebler IS the same Girl Scout cookie! Too much coffee and Google this morning.

Production
Girl Scout cookies are made by large national commercial bakeries under license from Girl Scouts of the USA. The bakers licensed by the organization may change from year to year, though this is not common. In 2008 the licensed companies were Little Brownie Bakers (LBB), a subsidiary of Keebler, which is owned by Kellogg's; and ABC Bakers, a subsidiary of Interbake Foods, which is owned by George Weston Limited.

Confirmed the Keebler Coconut Dreams cookies are definitely identical!
I went back for a second run and confirmed with the Store Manager that is a seasonal pallet, no more shipped in. Looked like a nut with a sugar fix buying FIVE boxes. Each box has 3 packages inside, that is FIFTEEN packages to enjoy with a few given to friends and family.
Keebler actually makes other flavors as well. The Girl Scouts Thin Mints pictured above are also sold as Keebler Grasshopper. Look for the Elf logo.

Speaking of brand names
While in the store, I know store brands are often just rebranded from specific manufacturers. I normally buy known brand decent wine, took a chance on the Costco branded Kirkland Cabernet Sauvignon. Once I finish off the Kendall Jackson and Sutter Home, I'll uncork the huge bottle and see if as good. Based on Costco huge sales, Kirkland brands usually are pretty decent; the original suppliers tends to have better quality control to keep the huge contract.
