Most likely a router issue. Try and plug in through ethernet and see if you have the same problems. Try the 360 on another network, if it works fine on another network it's definitely your network to blame.
My room is on the top floor of a 3 story house and the router is on the ground floor. My 360 still connects fine to the router. My Macbook Pro has issues...
Why does my ps3 get online in a snap, 360 always a problem

I just bought my 4th Xbox 360 a couple of days ago, after my 3rd one got total disc read issue syndrome. 3rd one I bought in March 2010, and here we are in December 2010. 3rd one didn't even last a year. I mention this not to complain, but to show a basis of where I've been with this console and my experience with problems/potential problems related to Xbox.
I have all three current consoles, PS3, Wii, and -multiple- Xbox 360s. (I've started a graveyard of them in the spare bedroom...)
Anyway, it does sound like a router issue, and not an Xbox 360 issue. I had a Belkin router previously, and the Xbox 360 would give me those same connection problems you described. This would happen on a semi-regular basis. On top of that, the Nintendo DS would not connect to it in any way no matter WHAT I tried. Then, awhile back, we upgraded to a Netgear N router, which led to the Xbox and DS connecting without issue.
We have another Xbox 360 that still has problems connecting, but I attribute that to the fact that we are using an Original Xbox 1 network adaptor on it to try and make the connection.
Bottom line is that different Modem - Router - Wireless Network Adaptor combinations for various computer and games system connections CAN lead to certain connections just not working very well, or at all. I'd try switching out a piece or two here or there and see if that helps things at all. Good luck!
Sometimes, you will have combined the two pieces of equipment that just don't work together, despite the fact that by all reason and logic, they should. For example, it is now a somewhat documented fact, but there was a certain model tube television made by RCA in the late 1980's, that was incompatible with a Sony Playstation 1 console. If you connected the two, the screen jumped wildly. I found this out when visiting my grandmother, and it annoyed me to no end that what SHOULD work, simply didn't. Wasn't until years later, and the advent of the internet, that I read about that incompatibility issue. At that time I thought, "Yeah, that happened to me way back when! Guess that explains it..."
Just saying, you might have an incompatibility issue somewhere in you setup bro. It's worth looking into to find out.
