Probably getting a DS, need some good rpgs and kids games

It's been a long time since I've even turned on my DS (at least a year), but I did love Luminous Arc. Not enough to beat it, but I don't think I've ever come close to beating an RPG on the DS.

I bought FF3 and legitimately tried to enjoy it, but I'd honestly rather be playing a fan-translated NES ROM. Good sprites always look good - sub-N64 chunks of polygons, not so much.

Are there any GBA games i should really get?

Well for RPGs/SRPGs, there is- Riviera: The Promised Land, Yggdra Union, Final Fantasy tactics Advanced, two Fire Emblem games that made it stateside, both Golden Sun games, remakes of Final Fantasy I, II, and IV-VI, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mother 3, Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/Leafgreen (recommend Emerald and one of the last two), the two Shining Soul games (not to be mistaken with Shining Force), the two Summon Knight: Swordcraft Story games, two Advanced Wars games, two Super Robot Taisen games, and Tactics Ogre.

I'd add Drill Dozer, the Castlevania DS games, Ninja Five-O, and the Mega Man Zero games to non-RPG suggestions.

There are many, many excellent GBA games that are worthwhile. But you can get a cheap GBA SP to play them and still get the XL. I think you can relax about the large screen - it should look better than the original despite having the same resolution in a larger screen. But the best thing to do to put your mind at ease about this is try to see a demo unit (or perhaps a youtube video of one in action).

My two suggestions for kids games are based on what I see my 7 year old son playing.

Painfully Obvious: Mario Kart (He's logged RPG-like hours into it.)
Less Obvious: Drawn to Life Spongebob edition (He seems to keep going back to it.)

DS lite for 89 bucks at walmart tomorrow morning.. blea really tempted to just go for that though i REALLY wanted a XL >_<

i had another question for you guys. Do you need screen protectors for these things? I would think they were worthless, but considering your using the stylus on the screen a lot i was wondering if a screen protector is actually needed, and if the screen can actually get scratched up. I would think it would hinder the touch sensitivity

im still having a bitch of a time coming up with good kids games heh. Mario cart and stuff like that is too advanced. Im really looking for simple stuff like nintendogs.

Wow, aren't they usually 120/130 bucks? I wish I was there to buy a spare, that is really cheap for a new one. I bought a good condition one, *used* here in Europe for 90 *Euros* (it was some months ago though, before the 3DS was announced).

EDIT: Wait, is this is one of those "Black Friday" things where people trample over one another and there is very limited stock?

I used my DS for a couple of days without a screen protector, mainly with thumbs and the official stylus it came with (I played a lot of stylus heavy games like Dragonball Origins and Phantom hourglass). There were no scratches, but then I got a Hori screen protector and after a bit of struggling with the bubbles (as I don't have a steady hand with these things) started using it. Noticed no difference with the touch sensitivity.

...and I'm glad I put a screen protector in it, since after a couple of weeks use, the screen protector itself is scratched like hell. I'm thinking without that protector, some of those scratches would be on the screen itself.
