No. I truly dislike the controller so that kept me away from the system more than anything. An f'd d-pad makes for unpleasant gaming.

(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

The only controller i didn't like was the Goldstar one. That had an f'd up D-pad.
The panasonic D pads were perfect. If you only had a chance to play with the goldstar dpad, then i feel sorry for you. It truly is terrible.

The system definitely isn't terrible, even though it failed, most of the problems it had, had little to do with the games. There's loads of shovelware, but there are quite a few good games, like the amazing port of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Way of the Warrior, and a few others. It mostly failed because it was expensive has hell when it was released, $700 per system.

Yup, that's the problem when hardware that's brand spanking new is manufactured by various third parties with no money to pad out the price from the software side of things.

Re: Is the 3DO worth buying?
I've been thinking about buying one of these too. I think it may just be my next vintage console purchase. It's not all that expensive anymore, and while it may not have as many great games as say a Nintendo or Sega console, it still has a pretty decent library of games. And the controller on the one I played was awesome. One of the best old-school controllers I've ever used. The button layout is pretty much the same as the SNES, but the quality of it all is so much better, the controller is more solid and sturdier, the buttons feel more responsive and long-lasting. It's great.
Good games on the 3DO:
-Alone in the Dark 1 & 2
-Bust-A-Move (a.k.a. Puzzle Bobble)
-Doom
-Gex
-Lemmings
-Myst
-Need for Speed
-Night Trap (I love cheesy horror)
-Road Rash
-Samurai Shodown
-Star Control 2
-Super Street Fighter II
-Wolfenstein 3-D
See, a good enough library of games and a cheap enough price that most any vintage collector should have some interest in it.
