I guess its just that game companies see consoles as the main source of sales with the PC being a sort of "bonus" in sales. I can't remember which developer said it (ID maybe Epic) but they said that they had to move onto releasing games on consoles as well as PCs now due to piracy hurting PC sales.

I think Lost Planet on the PC seems to be a good solid conversion with added DX10 features. Maybe this a turning point for Capcom to try harder?

the worst port I've played is Metal Gear 2. the pc version was a pcdvd port of the XBOX version, and it just sucked. no optimization for anything; it even lacks pc menus if I recall. i could barely get it to run on my P4 2.66 HT, 128 MB GeForce 5200, 256 MB system RAM machine. I know thats not alot of RAM these days, but in '04 it wasn't bad. Should've been enough to run a straight XBOX port, right? Mafia wasn't too good either :?

Windows XP requires a minimum of 256 MB of RAM to truly be useful and effective. I'm not surprised a game crawled a little under those constraints.

(Yes, I know XP will run on less, but really, would you want it to?)

I can't wait for the PC version of Gears of War, but for the most part, PC games nowadays are pretty bad. I'm getting a new computer soon, and since it's a family computer and the PUs are paying for it, I'm pretty much going all out to break the bank. :P 8800 ultra, quad-core, etc. I can't wait to finally play the copy of DOOM 3 I bought a year or so back. I thought I had a graphics card, but I was a n00b and listened to the damn Dell tech dude...ran about 1/2fps I believe. I played through the first level on a laptop which had like a 6150Go or something on it and that went at a crawl too.

But Gears, a few FPSes, and that's all I'm really going to be using it for gaming wise, besides emulators. I'm prolly going to get bioshock for 360, though I may just get it for PC instead...depends on what the reviews say. I'm starting to wonder if I should get the 360 version of HL2 or the PC version now...

Hopefully the whole games for windows campaign will help spur up some quality! :)

oh yeah, absolutely...the main thing that sucked about that port was the complete lack of pc interface and an almost 8 gig install. that was simply unacceptable, IMO. :|

Came across this earlier, thought it'd be useful to anyone looking to try RE4 on the PC. Sorry if this was already posted somewhere else:

Texture Mod -- Purportedly with better graphics than GC edition.
Mod-Patch Cocktail -- One part mouse support, one part alternative skins, one part keyboard support for QTEs, one part high-resolution pistols, one part official lighting patch, one part kitchen sink?
Hi-Res Movies 1 -- Crappy-cutscenes-be-gone
Hi-Res Movies 2 -- Ditto

I haven't tried any of these yet, but I think I can see myself replaying RE4 in the future.

Yep, there's a lot of stuff going on for RE4 on foreign boards. I have a friend who is fluent in Chinese, so when we would message each other he'd send me pics of all these awesome mods for RE4. Amazing stuff. ;)
