Is Bluray pricing hurting movie sales in general?

I think it was the only blu ray of one of the godzilla films classic media got the relase rights to that they could do a blu ray of.

What makes me wonder though is why a show like wolverine and the x-men is on three dvds for its box set, and one 3 blu rays for the corresponding boxset?

Anime is another tricky areas as Funimaiton does the most with blu ray, but they also dont tell the truth when they just do upconverts. I realize some shows and movies don't or wont have hd masters, but they should be honest in the packaging.

Then bandai does dumb stuff like putting Gundam Unicorn as single blu ray releases. A one hour movie on a blu ray with minimal extras for 50 dollars? They already announced that the dvds will have two eps (movies) on each disc. How does that make sense?

The only thing that makes less sense, is the gundam fanboy in me keeps telling me to buy the blu ray, and i dont think i can keep him at bay much longer. :D

Blu Ray is to me, what Laserdisc was to VHS in the late 80s and early 90s. If you want quality the option was there, but most people will stick to VHS or in the Blu Ray comparison DVD. I do really want the Scott Pilgrim Blu Ray, because it comes with the DVD, a Blu Ray, and a digital copy. And has more features than the regular DVD.
I would say HDDVD was the laserdisc of this decade.
Nah, thats more a Betamax then anything. Laserdisc was around for like 20 years.

Most the time, I spend somewhere between $10-15, though with Amazon, I've gotten even better deals. I remember picking up The Hangover during it's release week on Blu-Ray for $15, which happened to be less than the DVD release.

Sure, I have to shop around and look for deals instead of splurging on the hottest title as soon as I see it, but it's not a bad practice to get into.
Perhaps in the US. Over here, it's very rare for a bluray to be £10 let alone £6. If they were priced like that I would buy them more often. Considering a DVD is usually £5-10 for recent releases and the equivalent bluray is £15-20 for recent releases (brand new releases are often £25+) the extra £10 just isn't justifiable for me. Every now and then some decent films will come on sale and you can get a 2 for £18-20 if you're lucky.

Blurays are insanely overpriced over here.

just on the topic of transferring movies footage to BluRay, i really have to bring up Evil Dead's - in my opinion - completely absurd BluRay release. i might be the only one in this boat, but isn't the point of a lot of older movie their grainy, grungy quality?

all this digital remastering takes a lot away from these films, as far as i'm concerned. it really weirds me out to see 70s and 80s horror flicks with crystal clear quality.

I happen to have a 32 inch LCD 720p TV and a 55 inch LCD 1080p TV... For DvDs and Blu Rays, there are some noticeable differences between the two TVs but not as much as I figure when the 1080p TV was first purchased.. The digital cable on the 55 inch actually looks worse than the 32 inch.. I do notice a difference between blu rays and dvds on the 50 inch more so than the 32 inch, but the smaller TV has differences as well.. I guess finding a satisfaction out of Blu-Rays when compared to DVDs is in the eye of the beholder, but I could care less either way myself... I honestly think more people are gearing towards streaming Netflix than either of the two formats..

Cleaning up a bit is fine, but making them look plasticy is not. Predator had all of its grain and grit removed, and it looks awful.

Im with you on this one. I want my down and dirty movies to look down and dirty.

What's the maximum feasible amount of pixels for a faithful transfer from print, disregarding compression for the sake of argument? I reckon there's no real academic answer for that question.

You see them a lot for disney cartoons. They're meant for parents to pop the blu in at home, and the dvd in the car, since so many cars and minivans now come with dvd players.
