dsheinem wrote:Jan: RPG (cold weather + winter break for many students/faculty)
Feb: 2D fighter (drastic change from long RPGs)
Mar: Puzzle
Apr: Shmup (this should be early so as not to conflict with an annual September shmup competition some of us are in)
May: Adventure
Jun: FPS
Jul: Beat 'Em Up/Brawler/Hack-n-Slash
Aug: Platformer (ideally something with a 2D + 3D version)
Sep: Sports or Racing
Oct: Survival Horror
Nov: Strategy/Tactical (not necessarily an RPG though)
Dec: some hard to define game - why must everything fit in a genre?

Am I really the first to suggest an FPS? Have we ever done one?

goooooood call on FPS DSH!! I concur actually. Can't believe I forgot.

FPS is a good call, how'd that get missed for so long? I like the idea of doing a RPG in January too, should be a good fit for the weather and school schedules.
I tried to come up with some new ideas mainly for my list, I don't even have games in mind for some of them. Here's what I've got.

Jan: RPG
Feb: Visual Novel
Mar: FPS
Apr: old and new (2 game in a series with a generation gap like Metal Gear nes/MGS or SMB/Mario64)
May:Puzzle
Jun: Sports
Jul: Action adventure/rpg
Aug: Shmup (possibly a couple games focused on a company or scoring mechanic instead of just 1 game)
Sep: Rom hack
Oct: Survival Horror
Nov: Licensed game
Dec: RTS

Another aspect. Instead of just popular well known games, Maybe a couple Hidden Gems months?
Discovery of playing some hidden classics that didn't go mainstream, maybe shed new light of game play?

Maybe some from these Hidden Gems threads?

A couple of my picks.
Toy Commander
Wild Metal Country

the only thing is we try to do games available on multiple consoles to give more members a chance to play.
