I've known folks who put FLAC on their mp3 players and use earbuds

I do sometimes, but the real reason i have FLAC is for car listening. MP3 256 does not sound very good in a car and MP3 320 sounds ok, but for some albums i can tell the difference in FLAC. Especially for all my Grateful dead concerts.

Because road/engine noise is the perfect environment for discerning the difference between 256kbps and 320kbps MP3s...
