You'd be correct. GBA sound isn't nearly as good as SNES. Also, it's too bad Kutaragi didn't stick to making sound processors.ZeroAX wrote:ok good point.
but I have to say, I got the feeling that the GBA's sound chip was much worse than the SNES's legendary sound chip, designed by Ken Kutaragi (yes the papa of the playestation) which gave us epic tunes, like the FF6 and Chrono Trigger music.
is the gba as good or better than the snes?

Really? Which specific games do you find this to be a problem? For instance, on Super Street Fighter II Turbo I have absolutely no problem with the 2 missing buttons. I don't miss them at all, and find the game controls beautifully with 4. Which ports do you find suffer from the transition?
Yeah, most SNES games didn't use all the buttons, and the ones that did probably didn't receive GBA ports. The ones that did found inventive ways to include all the functionality sans 2 extra buttons.
Inventive perhaps, but they killed my intuitive play from the typical Y & B plus RL or R & A/X. If I'm going to play the "exact" same game on GBA, I don't want to re-learn where my fingers go. The DS would have been so much better for SNES ports, button-wise, not screen-wise though. It'd be nice if the 3DS had SNES VC as well...

It would be really interesting if they used the separate sprite and background layers to create a composite 3-D effect.D.D.D. wrote:It'd be nice if the 3DS had SNES VC as well...

All you really need is fierce kick anyways.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

How so? If it weren't for Chun Li's hyuken, I could pretty much only use 2 buttons in the SNES version anyway.

As a Ken player, I always use all 6.

Re: is the gba as good or better than the snes?
i seen some comparison between the SNES and GBA and from what i saw is that SNES has better graphics and sound and not limited to 4 buttons like the GBA. Of course because one is home console and the other is a small portable system. But GBA is still good since sequal games from snes came on to the GBA which further life for the retro type of games.

That was a genius move by developers. The very first two GBA games I bought were Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Wario Land 4. The power of nostalgia basically earned that sale for Nintendo and Konami. A month later Megaman Zero, another revisit of classic series.
I know that developers need to take risks and evolve their franchises to keep their properties fresh but the GBA (and now the NDS) are like havens for gamers that don't want their games to grow up.
