me too. i went to a liberal arts college and HAD to take a foreign language. for whatever reason i signed up for japanese. it was a class that i crammed in everything usually the day of the exam, got it in my short term memory, aced the exam, and then lost everything until i had to restudy for the next exam. i honestly don't remember anything about it. and liberal art schools can suck my cock.Bradtemple87 wrote:I studied 2 years in school, but as they say, without practice you lose it...
if you took a shit, please put it back

I would think Chinese would be of more value than Japanese in the electronics industry.lisalover1 wrote: While a big part of my decision to learn the language is games and anime, another part is that I'm planning to be an electrical engineer, so I figure that it will eventually be beneficial to my career.

@Hashiraya: I meant no offense if you took any. It's sometimes hard to read between the lines for emotion in blocks of text. XD
I could see how it could be a bad thing as chimpira do sound kind of stupid as most people don't talk like that. I do still envy you a bit for your level of natural casual speech. Its not something very easy to pick up especailly if you're class taught like I was.
Oh, dude, no offense. I don't even see how I could be offended!

Curious, are you hapa, nikkei, non-JP Asian or...? My friend is 100% JP but doesn't speak it; whenever we hung out I had to translate for him... "eeee, gaijin ka?". His French is great though.hashiriya1 wrote:It was hard when I first moved to Japan because based on my appearance, everybody thought I was Japanese, so they thought something was wrong with me whenever I spoke broken Japanese. Nothing wrong learning many languages as you can, especially we are in the Information Age. Learning Asian languages is beneficial if you are aiming for overseas business opportunities, don't try limiting yourself to studying only one, and try talking to overseas people that study in your local colleges/universities.
Re: How Many Japanese-Speakers On Racketboy?
This is my fourth year studying Japanese as one of my classes in College (not University, it's the equivalent of High School in the US), but I don't feel nearly confident enough to consider myself a Japanese-speaker. I feel ashamed when I meet Japanese exchange students of similar age who are talking with impressive English, haha! I really need to get my vocab down pat.
One day...

I do not have any Japanese blood, but of mixed Asian descent. After living there for almost a decade, there's gotta be at least one drop in me somewhere. Probably the honne/tatemae aspect of my personality came from there.
