I'd be remiss not to mention Mastadon. An ATL bastion.

Not much into HEAVY metal, more of an indie/alternative guy, but I love Killswitch Engage and Bullet For My Valentine, as well as some older Deftones and Thrice songs if you consider that metal. (More Post-Hardcore, but whatever works.)
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

I'd be lying if I said I haven't liked any songs that Metallica has done in the past twenty years, but it just seems like little, if anything they've done in that time matches the epic metal masterpieces they did in their earlier years. Even some of their lesser known early songs like Creeping Death and Four Horsemen are more memorable to me than anything they've done in the last twenty years. And god, Hetfield's vocals sounded like something right out of hell itself back in those days

It's not that I think Metallica sucks now, I just feel they are past their prime and kind of behind the times when you look at a lot of other giants in the heavy metal scene, but I digress. I don't want this to turn into a Metallica topic

Man, I haven't heard of at least 80% of these bands, god I must be getting old. Heavy metal used to be all I pretty much listened to. Nowadays my wife rather not listen to it and my daughter calls it evil noise and covers her ears when it plays in the car. So my 15 min ride to work and party nights are my only time to indulge. :(

i am not too big into "metal" but i do enjoy dillinger escape plan.

it seems like most 'metal' bands have 'metal' look. even though DEP plays some hardcore music they look and dress 'normal', which is something i like.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Darkthrone
Judas Priest
Ahab
Dark Tribe
Mayhem
Emperor
Immortal
Wolves in the Throne Room
Leviathan
Judas Priest
Slayer
Evile
Iced EArth
Megadeth
Death

+1

This can be attributed to Cliff Burton's death, obviously. That guy was brilliant. The decline of Metallica shouldn't be attributed to Newsted, though. How can you put blame on a guy you can't even hear?

I love most genres of metal, though I don't like black metal. Symphonic minor scale metal doesn't do anything for me, either. I usually only enjoy consonance in metal when it's completely immersed in dissonance.
