and it would have meant more games would have physically fit on the same shelves in stores. :)

And then more games fit into bargain bins.

...that's both a smiley and frowney, I think.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Flake wrote: It's a problem with the US market. Microsoft didn't name their latest machine 360 because it has anything to do with a circle - they didn't want their machine to be labeled '2' while Sony's was labeled '3'. People might have perceived their machine as being less than the competition.

I think Nintendo made the same decision with their game cases. They wanted to make sure that GC games took up as much physical shelf space in stores as the competition. Of course, it's kinda hard to say that this strategy worked for them...

The smaller cases would have been pretty cool, from a collectors stand point.

This explains why their handhelds keep getting bigger. Also how a DS cartridge is way smaller than a gameboy cartridge, yet the box is bigger

And also fit more easily into thieves pockets. :? That's the reason we have those plastic caddies for CDs (and tapes in the day) in some stores. Simply to make them bigger so they don't slide into your pocket.

OK, one of those two boxes must be a different size for you. In the US, the packaging for GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, and DS games is almost exactly the same size, despite differences in style.

I think Japanese DS boxes are bigger because manuals come in more than one language.

Fixed. I missed the extra "quote" tags when cleaning it up before.[/quote]Those DS cases are definitely different, although they look similar in size. What about GameBoy boxes?

EDIT: Oh, and that's technically a Japanese DS case... but they're identical to the US ones AFAIK :)

Japanese GB boxes are definitely different than US ones. They're more rectangular than square.

I google NA box and that was one of the first ones to come out. Didn't pay any attention to it, since it is the same with NA boxes (I've had some DS games from NA)

Also noiseredux I think you meant to say games in Europe, cause last I checked Japan only speaks one language (unlike China).

Anyway no it doesn't have anything to do with that. They reduce the pages of the manual, so even if it is in many languages it is about as big as a single language manual.

Also I have both EU and NA GBA games and the boxes are exactly the same.
