um, that's a competitor to the Game and Watch not the GameBoy/DS/PSP.

If Tiger has sold 25 million units, probably their handhelds are as successful as the PSP.

When I was a kid the Tiger Handheld was pretty ubiquitous. Every kid had at least one. The key was that they were cheap and had just enough gameplay that you wanted to try and beat it.
As for the comments regarding how well the PSP is doing in Japan, didn't the Saturn do well in Japan?

The PSP has sold 60 million worldwide, and the Saturn only sold 10 (9.5 according to wikipedia) (So sad about the Saturn. It wasn't the best but it deserved at least Gamecube sales, 20mil).MrPopo wrote:When I was a kid the Tiger Handheld was pretty ubiquitous. Every kid had at least one. And those Tiger Toys are a joke, I don't think they should be compared to the PSP. That's like saying scooters are a bigger market than luxury cars just cause they sell more
Also why does every thread about Sony end up being about the PSP? Seams everyone expected it to conquer the world. Well at least its the only non-Nintendo handheld that has sold over 50 million, and is an actual success. Heck if you compare it to the GBA which had a monopoly, its sales are pretty good, considering the competition.
(for comparison the GBA sold 80 million units worldwide)

So the PSP is very popular with Japanese schoolchildren? How about the DS? Are they equal in Japan?Breetai wrote:ZERO chance of that happening. In American elementary schools, the DS is the more popular of the two.

Sales last week
PSP
America Japan EMEAA Worldwide
19,101 34,983 29,505 83,589
DS
Americas Japan EMEAA Worldwide
115,356 56,237 110,730 282,323
I'd say the DS is more popular. But in Japan the psp does good.
This is vgchartz, so It really is just an estimate.
