What about the flood levels of halo? Maybe its just me but those guys scare the **** out of me. and you get a shotgun so...

Doom scared me when I was 10 or 12, eventhough I was still playing it. Basically I was scared when the monster was about to attack me. Doom 3 put a lot of evilness to it.

Great game, I'm thinking it falls more into hidden gem territory though, although it did get a sequel, which seems more well known than the original just because it has lesbians in it.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the PC just came out yesterday, but it has already worked it's way into my top 5 favorite survival horror games and it is taking the #1 position for most scary.

defining? Not really. But very impressive for the hardware.

As bad as The Ring Terror's Realm is, it's a must-play if you like bad games. Every single cut scene/character interaction in that game is hilarious. It's like they translated the Japanese dialogue via Google's translation tools or something.

I actually considered putting this on there as a joke. I sat down over the holiday break in December 2008 and beat this game, along with Carrier, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and Blue Stinger. It was without a doubt the worst game I've ever played, though I did manage to find a few little touches that I liked. Even in absolute crap, there can be some interesting gameplay ideas.

I just thought it was hilarious. I really didn't like the gameplay all that much, but it was mostly just regular RE-style survival horror done poorly (think Galerians) with some of the funniest Engrish I've ever seen in a video game. That was the only reason I kept playing it.
