My first pinball machine!

No problem about the mucking. Does it feel strange playing a pinball game when your playing a video game version of it at all?

Unfortunately it's been quite some time since I've been able to play an actual pinball machine. Even the ones I have played the actual table, trying to remember that far back is hard. I suppose it might be weird to play one that you're very used to or have played recently. The Williams collections look really good though and if you have a TV that makes them about life sized it really does pull you in.

It might be interesting to hack up a crappy PS2 controller and make an interface with the plunger, buttons, and the ability to nudge the table. It has crossed my mind a few times. And I do have some working but beat up PS2 controllers... but I have too many other projects in various stages of incompletion.

I was thinking the same when I got the Williams Pinball collection, adapting to a digital stick configuration. Unfortunately the analog sticks are also used for table bump and plunger release. For the plunger, potentiometer might be workable like a slide control on an equalizer maybe even plunger design to enable smacking launch of ball. L1-L2 buttons are the flippers so those are easy enough. Table bump feature be cool to convert the potentiometer to a motion sensor of sorts as in the Wii.

I know others want a newer machine, but honestly a cheap electromechanical machine is the best way to get your feet wet and decide if you want to deal with the headaches of owning machines.

Personally, my first machine was part of Gottlieb's system 80 series, so it was a constant source of headaches and turned me off from getting another machine for a long time.

My father-in-law has an F-14 Tomcat machine that hardly sees any use. It turns on but there's a ball stuck in the playfield so it won't kick another out. God I want that machine so bad. But I know they are tough to take care of.

Great job on the Swinger machine! I would like to play some older pinball machines like that. Most of the ones you see around today are post-mid 80s.

Exactly, I figured that the older ones would be much easier to deal with then the newer stuff. I may one day want to get a newer machine, but we'll see how this goes.

You should pursue that machine. F-14 tomcat is a fan favorite! Getting that ball out wouldn't be hard at all.
