Back in my day, we made our OWN strategy guides and maps, on graph paper! And there was no Internet, no GameFAQs to help us out when we got stuck. Auto-map? Saves? Bah! *shakes walking stick angrily*
I'm 15 and I've done this before. Not often, but that has more to do with me not having games which require it, though I started making dungeon maps for LoZII, considering how friggin complex the third dungeon is.
Seriously now, link up Fusion and Prime (or finish Zero Mission) to unlock NES Metroid. Play through that to understand the essence of Metroid (though the pixel bluring is a bummer).
I've played it through that WITH the Hori pad and I still don't see it's awesomeness lol. :P unless of course the comment wasn't directed at me...

No doubt, Zelda 2 had some complex dungeons. Graph paper ftw!

Not directed at you, it was just an old gamer rant. :) It's tough for people who are used to modern gaming to be drawn into older gaming. I admit, I'm guilty of this as well: I picked up the "Intellevision Lives!" disc for GameCube and played the games for a while, but I just couldn't really get into them. But I have a blast with the Atari Flashbacks... *shrug*

Actually, the funny thing is I really started playing retroish games on the PC first. Rayman, Sonic Collections, Lost Vikings, Duke Nukem, DOOM. I think the most advanced games I played on my old computer was Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Lol, I remember wanting a 3D card, but it was too expensive! I had a pretty fortunate gaming experience as a child. I have lots of memories playing Sonic 3 and Knuckles with my sis. But, very valid point.
