Skullmonkeys looks cool. Never knew much about it. Also looks. . . expensive. . . apparently.
I'll mention Jazz Jackrabbit 2 even though most my time was spent with the level editor and not the actual game. They should've ported that one to playstation.
Yoshi's story was pretty good and there was a sidescrolling goemon game for n64 too but I didn't play it much.

Does SOTN count? It is not one of my favorite games by any stretch, but it is still probably one the better 2D platformers in a gen that didn't boast many good ones...
