Well, I beat it with Stills and Kim. Stills ending was good, and Kim's was pretty funny. However, beating it with them has unlocked a new character. I might play through it with him before I review it - I think I owe the game at least one more playthrough.

I've also heard there is yet another unlockable character, but I have no idea how to unlock him/her. In fact, that's one thing I like about this game - doesn't seem like the secrets to this game are spelled out anywhere. There's path variations on the map that I still haven't figured out how to access, and who knows how much other stuff - it feels like the old days, when all the secrets were passed by word of mouth, and you could never be sure its real or its just someone spouting crap.

I've never been into Scott Pilgrim before this game (I knew of its existence, but aside from Scott Pilgrim himself, I knew no other characters name or anything else really), but this game has made me interested. I'd say it very easily stands by its own merits, regardless of the IP. Like I said before, if this same group made this about Twilight instead of Scott Pilgrim, I'd still be enjoying this game.

As for the lack of online: While I'm not going to BS you and say online play would ruin it (unless it was handled like Final Fight: Double Impact), I don't think it would enhance it either. Some games work well allowing strangers to drop in and play, but I don't think Beat 'Em Ups are like Fighting Games in that respect. As I played SPvTW just today with a good friend of mine, there was a ton of co-ordination both verbal and non-verbal. It's almost essential that you not only be in proximity, but are also able to trust your ally. So much of playing Beat 'Em Ups online usually ends up being a spree of stealing items and other annoyances - you don't get this as often with 'real' people. Even in the arcades, I formed 2-hour bonds with these complete strangers while playing Die Hard Arcade, The Simpsons or TMNT4 - online, the experience is so empty.

The game is hard. It will likely break you early on, unless you are a master of this genre and can adapt easily. However, you will learn pretty quickly. Your characters have an enormous amount of tools at their disposal, and if you can master them all, you'll be a force to be reckoned with. There were many moments where, as I played with my friend, we'd clear out about two dozen punks with spectacular combos and general-ass-kickery and sit back and go "Whoa - that was bad ass!" Just keep in mind your enemies have a few of your tools too - and some of their own.

I watched the movie and played the game last night.
Good stuff on both parts. I had pretty high hopes for the movie after the trailer and it didn't disappoint really. I was just loads of fun.

I've only played through the first level of the game so far. It took me a little getting used to the controls. Seemed a little slow at first (not really liking having to dash), but I was getting into the groove a little bit before the end of the level. I REALLY need to get around to getting a second controller so my GF can play too.

I loved the graphical style, music, personality, and River City Ransom influences. I'm looking forward to what it to come.

So me and my friend were right. I played the demo with my friend just a little while ago, and it awesomely felt alot like River City Ransom with it's shops. It's too bad I'll have to wait a bit to get cash, because the demo is awesome.

Also, really love how Scott has a $500 debt for overdue movies in the video store. That's a really nice touch.

1. Waaaahhh! There's no online, we have to actually find real people to play with us

2. Waaaahhh! The game is so hard, we can't beat it without grinding our characters or getting someone to help us!

Good god, modern game reviewers are pathetic
It actually makes me smile when I hear that a game doesn't have online play these days. I've grown sick of developers putting the single player or co-op experience on the side in favor of making a playground for jerks around the world to call each obscenities twenty-four seven. I'm not exactly sure why reviewers feel it necessary for everything to have an online component to it. I'm looking forward to Vanquish more than any other shooter this year, but I'm certain it'll get points knocked off by reviewers because it doesn't have a spawn-rape factory tacked on.

But I digress. Scott Pilgrim the game looks great and I can't wait to get it on XBLA. I'm calling some friends over, ordering a pizza, busting open some beers and doing a four player beat-em-up the way it is meant to be done.

I just can't get into this game for some reason. The response for it around the net is very positive, so I guess it's just me. I really don't like the gameplay here at all. I love beat'em ups but this one's doing absolutely nothing for me.

Guess I'll go back to Castle Crashers

Is it just the leveling that is getting you down?

A shame ya don't like it, but there's been plenty of games I've been assured I'd like that I ended up feeling nothing for either.

That's part of it, but I think just the feel of the game has been putting me off a bit too. Little things have been bugging me like how using the summon always leaves you wide open for attack, the 360 attack doesn't seem to stop enemy combos like in other beat'em ups, I don't like the way grab moves work, and a few other little things about the gameplay and mechanics have been bugging me. Every beat'em up has a certain "feel" to it and I guess I haven't gotten comfortable with the "feel" of this one like I did with Dishwasher and Castle Crashers. The combat is a bit slower paced than those games too which I haven't totally adjusted to

That being said, I'm at the point in the game right after you beat the blond ninja chick and I'm starting to warm up to the game a little bit. The game is funny as hell, I can't deny that. One thing that I give this game points for also is how alive your enemies seem. They actually react visually to what's going on which I find rather fascinating. I think I've even seen enemies run away from me in fear. I feel like I'm fighting real people here, which may be why I get so pissed when they lay the smack down on me LOL

I like the boss fights, they've all been pretty good so far, though dare I say, surprsingly easy. I beat that ninja chick without breaking a sweat. The Konami-inspired flashing when they are near death really hits the nostalgia button for me every time

I think this one is just kind of a grower for me. Still hate the levelling system though. I feel like Dishwasher Dead Samurai and Castle Crashers handled character upgrading better. I seem to be having more fun now that I actually have all my moves available to me and it just feels like I should have had them from the get go

I'm to level 3 now and liking it a bit better -- the enemies were more interesting in level 2.
But it still isn't blowing me away just yet. It just doesn't seem fluid enough to me.
I wish I could play with my USB joystick as I'm wondering if that would help -- but it doesn't support it like my disc-based games do....

I should have gotten a trophy for paying that off. I played the game pretty much the entire day today, and beat it with Kim. Now I'm playing it through on "Supreme Master" difficulty with Scott. [As a side note, I tried for HOURS to get the "Invincible" trophy, but I just gave up.]

Also, what's this about unlockable characters?

There's something about a Nega Scott character I heard of, who is apparently pretty powerful
