If I were to recommend titles that show just how compelling and idiosyncratic the system remains to this day, I'd present you with this list, in order of the originality and artistic merit they continue to hold even by today's standards:

Seaman (see: the human nature of prejudice due to ignorance, followed by tolerance by means of communication)
Rez (see: Kandinsky)
Ikaruga (see: Taoism, seeking the "Middle Path")
Shenmue (see: Hamlet)
Jet Set Radio (see: Renegades of Funk)
Ecco the Dolphin: DOTF (see: National Geographic/New Age Philosophy)
Skies of Arcadia (see: Robin Hood/Peter Pan)

There are tons of titles that I would have recommended whole-heartedly back in 2000, but have spawned or gained fresher relatives in more recent years, such as Soul Calibur, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Crazy Taxi, Samba de Amigo, and Phantasy Star Online. I think that these are great titles to try out (save for maybe the mostly-defunct PSO), but the aforementioned have remained timeless due to their peerlessness and should therefore imediately be bought, played, and have a thoroughly detailed essay written about them directly proceeding their completion.

...yeah, maybe I'm not the average gamer.

Was this thread on its way out, or did I just kill it by hurling completely unnecessary nonsense about philosophy and artistic merit at it?
