Why not just stand it vertically?
The PS3 vents it's heat via the right side of the unit and intakes fresh air from the rear, so putting it in any sort of enclosed entertainment center is suicide. When you stand it up the heat vents directly out the top with cool air being fed in through the back end vents at the bottom of the unit. This lets the natural airflow and cooling process on the unit to take place.

Niode pointed out at an earlier post why you should not place your PS3 as a Tower but leave it flat as a desktop.

My Wii does not get hot. I think you're having this problem because WiiConnect24 is enabled. I suggest disabling it. Otherwise, it is running the network adapter all the time to get updates.

I can second that. Mine ran quite hot and after i turned WiiConnect24 off and it seems to stay much cooler now.

The PS3 also has a ton of different arrangements with the fans too. My 40gb CECHG01 model takes in air from the front and right sides and exhausts it out of the back through 2 fans. It seems to work well in this configuration and never has it felt more than slightly warm, even after a 2 hour gaming session.

Lookey, there are slots on the left side hiding towards the base below the Hard Drive. It is completely covered when sitting like a tumbling tower of bricks or should I say BRICK. No airflow from left side causing heat to rise inside like the rising of my blood pressure when I saw that ugly Yellow Light.
To Sony, a Raspberry for misleading information. The replacement when it arrives will have PS Logo permanently set to Desktop mode!

Since March 23rd, son's PS3 still running. Long term? Who knows, but do feel better going horizontal.
