Yes, my bad. I was writing it out knowing that it was called something else but couldn't remember it at the time. Apparently "Gold" isn't something that sticks in my memory very well :oops:

Honestly, nothing. Those are the two best in my mind by far. I would probably throw in Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Shaolin Monks just to round it off.

Some one hacked together MK1, 2 and 3 for the PS2. Basically, they extracted MK1 from the Deadly Alliance Premium Pack, MK2 from Shaolin Monks, and Ultimate MK3 from Armageddon Limited Edition version. So besides MK2 on Shaolin Monks, those games are hard to get because of them being limited edition versions. Too bad the hacker didn't also include MK3 from Midway Arcade Treasure, but I guess it would have been redundant because of Ultimate MK3. Some times I like to play the original MK3 for nostalgic reasons.

So anyway, the MK1 version is suppose to be "arcade perfect" port. Some people complain that it isn't because it was sped up. I actually think the speed up makes the game more playable than it was before. So in my opinion, this is the best home version of the game.

MK2 from Shaolin Monks is also sped up, which I'm not crazy about. As I said, I think the PSN version is the best (home) version. I'm not sure how good the UMK3 port is since I haven't played much of the arcade version. I was playing it for a while on PS2 last night though, and I don't notice any problems.
The MK1 port on the "Premium Edition" of MK: Deception for PS2/Xbox was good but had some audio issues on some levels and exhibited slowdown during the later matches against the CPU - Endurance rounds, Goro, Shang Tsung.

The MKII and MK3 ports on Midways Arcade Treasures 2 (PS2/Xbox/NGC) had even more issues than MK1 with flickering shadows, sound issues, sped-up gameplay, occassional graphical glitches, etc.

And finally, the UMK3 port found on MK:Armageddon had HORRIBLE slowdown. It's barely playable.

Have you played them though, or is that just what you've read?

MK1 seemed awesome, but I didn't play up until the endurance matches so I can't comment on that. I also read that the music cuts out during the credits, but, oh well. So it's suppose to have slow down, huh? Well the game's already sped up to begin with, so I couldn't imagine it being that bad.

Read my post better, I said the version of MKII was taken from Shaolin Monks, not MAT2.

I never played the MKII or 3 on MAT2 so I cannot comment, but I've played MKII from Shaolin Monks extensively. Other than it running just a tad too fast, it's an awesome port. I've must have played this version for at least 50 hours total. This includes playing the computer and actually beating the game, performing all special moves/fatalities, and playing 2 player for even longer periods of time. If there were flaws in this version, I think I would have noticed them (other than the speed up).

Where does this slowdown take place? I mean, I haven't played it for too long, but I didn't notice ANY slow down.

The MAT2 version of MK2 is the exact same one that's used in Shaolin Monks. The flickering shadows are pretty hard to miss.

Also, I know this is being a bit picky, but I just want to point out that these are actually emulations, not ports.

Amazingly, MK's 1-3 run better on the PSP (Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play) than on the PS2, Xbox, and NGC. You should pick it up if you have a PSP

Actually, I think they're pretty easy to miss. I haven't noticed them until just now (I popped the game in and intentionally watched the shadows). Saying that they 'flicker' makes it seem a lot worse. They look fine when you're walking on the ground. When you jump they kinda fade and then disappear )at the height of your jump) for a second then return when you land. And really, that's a lot more natural and realistic than a solid black shadow the entire time.

Even then, I played a few rounds against the computer and completely forgot about them. I don't think they're bothersome, they don't distract me at all. And I've never noticed it before.

The only thing that I find annoying about this version is the fact that the start button brings up the options window so you can't use a random select. You have to push start to continue anyway, why didn't they just make select the options window like in the PS3 version?

Pass. I have a PSP but I don't enjoy playing on small screen much. And when you use the component cables to play on a TV, the image quality is horrible. And it doesn't even take up the entire screen which is also annoying. I'd rather play the so-called flawed versions on the PS2.

I'm not defending the games as being great versions so much as I'm just disagreeing with yous that they're down right horrible. I wouldn't call them "unplayable" at all.
