DRM Finally done right, thanks to SEGA

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Yeah pain in the ass, expensive to manufacture, etc, but hell if it's any less annoying than what Ubisoft does. Again I'm not advocating it, just saying.

Again though, they could if they really wanted to. I don't think they want to though.

This older Action Replay memory dongle was crap, would error out.
Gamcube original AR would not run without it, I'm glad I backed it up.

It's a futile battle, certainly, but you have to remember that these companies have to do something to show to their investors that they're willing to protect their property.
One word: Steam.

And it seams piracy isn't as bad as the companies say it is:

http://kotaku.com/5533615/another-view- ... ame-piracy

A)Totally agree with this guy at the end (why PC games don't sell anymore)

B)Kind of my thoughts on the fact that most pirates wouldn't buy games anyway, if there was no piracy.

and

C)It'd be interesting to see what happens with piracy on the DS, since flash carts, are much easier to use, and a popular thing in even developed countries like Japan.

We need a barf smiley for all these DRM download rentals.

EDIT
Hey! To me, DRM stands for Download Rental Management!

Unfortunately, Steam is the lesser of two evils.

Interesting text.

I do think, however, that the percentage of pirates in underdeveloped countries is higher than the 20% he estimates. That's because due to gaming being very expensive, gaming is not seen as a common hobby (although a lot of people do have PS2s). One doesn't just enter an electronics store and find a videogame to buy there, at least in Brazil. Games are expensive and are not seen as an option.

Thus, most people who happen to know about videogames do pirate them; they're expensive and there isn't a white market for them.

Plus, pirate games are sold at every street corner in my city.

I think the 20% of pirates he was saying, is the average % of gamers in both developed and developing countries, who pirate.

I haven't read the article, but I think the DS situation is a lot different. With a PC, all you need to pirate a game is an internet connection. With the DS, you have to actually purchase a flash cart, which, while not strictly a piracy device, is a device that most purchasers get with the intent to pirate.

I can see a lot of people not willing to take the step to buy a "piracy device" but willing to download a game off the internet.
