Running old windows games on new versions of windows is entirely different than running old DOS games on DosBox. I'm pretty sure the Direct2Drive download would have DosBox fully configured anyway. Not that I'm trying to change your mind, you have plenty of good reasons. I just don't think that's one of them.

maybe it's not. I'm just not sure why it bothers people if I say I don't want to play games on my computer.

Mostly because we like computer games and want to share them, that's all. But I understand being overwhelmed by choice. So no big deal really.

yeah it's just part of my own personal OCD. I know I'm better of focusing on something. So that's what I've done.

What I was attempting to convey was that if you don't install Crysis it makes sense; your PC can't handle it and you don't want to spend the money to upgrade. But if you don't install Diablo 2 then it seems strange, since that runs on everything.
But hey, stick with what works for you. I still say you should play Deus Ex, though.

Coincidentally enough, Matt over at Armchair Arcade has a new video today extolling the greatness of UFO Defense. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm going to bet he's playing the Amiga version. He always has good insights into the history and the impact of the games he covers. You can check it out

Hi everyone! I'm new here (obviously, see the post count). I signed up to join in on the Together Retro, sounds fun.
I'm completely new to X-COM: UFO Defense, but I have found a DOS copy and I am running it in dosbox. My initial impressions are that this game is one of the most downright complicated things I have ever seen. It's also very hard (and I'm playing on Beginner). I can see the appeal, though. It kind of reminds me of a Civilization + Syndicate hybrid of sorts. I'll keep playing and see how far I can get.

I really hope you guys enjoy X-COM. It brings back good memories of going to my uncle's house and seeing him playing it on PS1. Back when I was younger it looked as boring as fuck, but he assurred me it was the best game he's ever played. Then I grew up and agreed with him.

Sorry for the delay guys. I was in Nashville and lost my jumpdrive that had the TR write up on it (if you watch the news you can imagine why). I am piecing one together from an old version of it on my work computer - it should be up tonight.
