Can you riddle me this?

What is the manufacturing year of your Dreamcast?

He put Dec 99 in the first post.

Whoops! Then yeah, it's the Dreamcast.

Devezu. You did not read my first post nor any later posts evidently. I exclaimed in happiness that I was successful at burning a game from a .cdi file that was playable by my dreamcast. There are no problems with anything.

I do have another question though. Do the intro portions of Echelon released games make them unplayable as they are? Should the image file be unpacked and repacked into a self boot game lacking the previously appended intro?

It shouldn't. I just hit start at said intro screen and game starts.

As to those people who find that games will boot, then stop, then work again, that's just a tear. I hate that crap. Giga Wing 2 is my number one culprit of that. Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves is a close second. Thankfully problem solves itself after I open and close the drive a few times giving it a chance to read. Almost seems like the laser has to "catch" the self boot portion to get it to run correctly. Since burnt backups are so finicky it is easy to miss.

Ok, thanks.

Lol, I have learned your pain all too well. I recently spent an hour and one half on PSO, and the game is only saved when you quit. Needless to say I didn't think to quit, and the game froze after all of that time!

It is very important to save periodically with burned games.

Has anyone had experience burning games with echelon or other intro portions? Are these playable "as is" or must they be modified? Do I need a boot disk? I have been looking online, and I find games that are indeed self boot. However, they have intro portions by echelon. I have found a few articles, but they are never the information that I need. Thanks in advance!

Self-booting games should be playable straight out of the DVD burner!

This is correct. Thank you! Most images are not self boot, but I am learning more and more that creating your own self boot disc is quite simple thanks to the tools that some people have made :).

You should check out the DCRES project. All the games are high quality, selfboots. I haven't ever had to make my own selfboot.
