they are all over designed. Nintendo focused on making the DS so small that they sacrificed case durability. All that means is that retrogaming on a DS in 2030 is going to be a challenge (as they will all be broken). I am a bit pissed that my L button broke on my BlackDS a month ago, but it has lasted me almost 2 years, and I got my ~150 dollars out of it.

Well, to defend nintendo, all new electronics break more often nowadays.

I still haven't figured out how people are breaking their DS's (especially the shoulder buttons).BlackDS wrote:Well, to defend nintendo, all new electronics break more often nowadays.

My DS spends the majority of its time in its case, i never dropped it, and my mom only plays it in the house, so if she dropped it, it would land on a soft carpet.
It just sorta stopped working, I didnt notice since only 2 games i play use the L button at all

What's the point of removing that handle though?
I always found it rather convenient to have

Yeah the hinges on the DS lite are notorious. My friend who is the same mindset as me and looks after everything, even down to keeping the tie-wraps and plastic bags in the boxes had his DS lite hinge break on him. I'm under the impression that the white ones are the main offenders since my black one is still fine.

I find this really interesting, as in my group of friends, not a single person has had a problem with the DSLite hinge. However, between a group of about 8 of us, roughly 4 original DS's had broken hinges. 2 of them the R button stopped working too.Niode wrote:Yeah the hinges on the DS lite are notorious. One DSlite has had the bottom screen go crazy though. the image 'vibrates' on the screen and makes gameplay basically impossible.
No problems with my DSi though
Either way, on the question of Nintendo hardware durability, the Wii is quite obviously the most fragile. Disc Errors are distressingly common, especially considering it's supposedly the most reliable home console this generation.
Re: ha! no more lunchcube
after 2 years of torture, by Blue phat DS had a broken hinge, effed up touch screen, and the top screen only displayed in a red color palette.
It was held together with duct tape, but it played like a champ!
(Since then, I learned not to break shit like a little asshole 10-12 year old)
