If I see no difference between the versions, wouldn't that imply, that to me, they play exactly the same? Is Fatal Fury the most responsive game, no. Its actually a slow game, at least the 1st one, it was made in 91. So to me I feel no lag difference. I have played the NG version with a neo pad and neo stick, the PS2 compilation with a standard controller and the SF anni. stick. I guess since I am more use to the series I can't tell if the controls are unresponsive as you seem. But to me they both play the same.

I will say that on all the snk ps2 compilations the neo versions look better through composite cables than the PS2 through composite. Weird if you ask me.

The moves are kinda weird to pull off, but I'm pretty sure it's because it lacks the 'grace period' modern fighters give you for inputting a special move.

It takes some getting used to, but ultimately I was throwing out Burning Knuckles and Rising Tackles like I needed to by the time I got to Raiden.

I haven't tried the PS2 version, but I wouldn't doubt that there are some control issues.

Thanks, pep, that does clarify things for me a good bit. My guess is that the control issues that many reviews mention aren't a result of the emulation, but just of the game itself since it is such an early fighter. I'll work on getting more exacting and slower in my execution so I can pull off the moves with more consistency!
