Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

@OP: very admirable. Your ideas on nostalgia are very mature and reasoned. I bought my DC and Genesis for similar reasons. I never had them when they were new and I ended up buying them posthumously because I had always wanted them as a kid.

Some people don't realize how shackled they are to material things; it takes quite a revelation to see that sometimes. Nostalgia is a dangerous thing because it's inherent that you're desiring a past that you cannot have anymore. If you could have that time, then it wouldn't be nostalgia. There's a Buddhist saying: abandon hope. It means do not wish for more than what you have. Be happy and content with life as it is. Then, if you get more, it is even more of a blessing. Hoping and thinking you deserve more will always lead to dissatisfaction with life. You have to be able to stop, in the very moment you're in, and be content with what you have now, no matter what it is.

I had a similar experience over Christmas when I just saw how much useless junk everyone gives their friends; half of it is stuff that no one wants or needs, yet they're given anyway... I decided to throw out/donate everything that wasn't super important to me from my childhood and now. So, as of now, all I really own is a TV, computer, DC, bike, tennis stuff, and a Genesis as far as trivial entertainment things go. My apartment is empty as hell, but it's really nice to feel so free. Strangely it's very liberating to have so little things. Cluttered room, cluttered mind, I always say. I focus more on important things now: eating well, working out, friends, studying/learning/reading, and work. My clean home was representative of a fresh start and it's worked excellently. Stuff from your past is usually only important insofar as your feeling for whatever it represents: and what it represents always exists in your mind, not a material item.

Some people have to have nick-nacks on every flat, open surface. Not me; if there's not a practical item on a desk (like a lamp), then it's clean. It's actually pretty attractive.. I have the whole minimalist theme going on.

That is the beauty of emulation. It may not be perfect, but you can always simplify by using your computer.

Yes, but his $100,000 offer was not enough unfortunately. :P

I understand what you mean and I agree as well. I've decided to sell it all regardless because I felt that I was content with just having the wonderful memories of my past.

I've got Zelda II on the GBA, and on the Gamecube, but have always wanted a copy of it for the NES. It's a pretty cart.
It is a pretty cart but as I think I mentioned in the auction description it certainly isn't perfect. It's not that the condition of the cart is bad but the gold paint has some signs of rubbing off a bit from being handled by human hands.

Just wanted to be sure you know, I hate un-mentioned surprises when I buy stuff and I try to avoid doing to the same to people who buy from me. :)

Man, this guy even turned down my offer of $100,001. He's playing for keeps.

I don't expect the cart to be mint, but thanks for the heads up!

I would say I agree quite strongly with that. I think my collecting got out of hand for about a year at one point. There's no reason I need four versions of all the 2D Sonic games for instance, and considering the size of my room right now, pretty impractical. When I look at it, I have so many games I bought that I haven't started or are even still shrink wrapped. So I've managed to curb the tendency to snap up games left, right and centre for fear that they may be completely beyond my grasp in a few years' time and am just enjoying the games I have already.

I'm growing fonder of it day by day honestly. I've narrowed down my cartridge based systems to just a Retro Duo and a handful of NES/SNES carts. I'm constantly tempted to pick up another Genesis, but always fall back on the PS2/360 Genesis collections and emulating on the PC with my Saturn USB pad.

The wife and I have newborn now, so you can imagine the amount of baby stuff strung about the house. I keep my game room nice and tidy for sanity purposes.

I save myself quite a bit of money by emulating. I always emulate to try out games I haven't played before. If I like it enough, I will eventually hunt out the physical copy. If not, then at least I didn't waste my money. I tried going off of review before, but I've been disappointed to many times. Not every review (or game for that matter) is created equally.

Kingmohd has been looking for one of those for a while now. If you are feeling generous, I'm sure he'd pay for shipping and cost of the pack.
