This is personal preference, but I've found that there's more I'm personally interested in on the SNES than the NES. If I had room I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Whatever style of games you prefer will decide which system you go with. I personally hate RPG's so NES wins hands down for me.

I always thought SNES had better platformers. mario all stars, mario world and DK country are enough to back that up.

Those games you mentioned are good although I don't think including Mario All Stars helps your case any considering those are all NES games on that collection. The NES had Mario 1-3, Adventure Island 1-3, Kirby's Adventure, Duck Tales, Chip n Dale, Little Nemo, Little Samson, Kid Icarus, and Bubble Bobble which back up my case.

The NES was dominating back then and this was before the fighting, RPG, and sports genres really got going. Therefore there were a ton of action and platforming games. The sheer number of games in those genres on a great machine like the NES is why I think it was the golden age for those genres.
