Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
Thanks I made this topic to discuss the full game seeing that the demo was too short. I still want to hear more.. At least it doesn't turn insane like Fahrenheit did. Enjoyed that game except the latter parts.

Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
Just watched the IGN video review...
It baffles me that something like this could get a 9/10 score when being reviewed as game. The whole thing looks like a giant QTE event, where you can't fail, but only change the outcome of the story. Sure the story is interesting, but does that make it a fun game? Shaking the controller to brush your teeth... exciting stuff there.
I don't understand why the gaming industry is so ambitious to become Hollywood. I really tried to like Indigo Prophecy personally. It was a cool story, but a clumsy ass game. Honestly, it looks like Heavy Rain is just a glorified Blu-Ray movie to me.

Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
Haven't played the demo yet, but I'm excited to try it out. My favorite thing about gaming is being sucked into a fully realized fiction world. It seems like the interface will make it or break it for me. I'm fine with a shallow "game" as long as the characters, choices and world are fully fleshed out. I'd actually like to play more games that are along the lines of highly evolved adventure games/graphic novels. Mind you, I don't want games to ONLY be like that, but I think there's room for more interactive stories such as this.
Hope it works.

Heavy Rain is the last interactive movie (er what do they call it again?) from David Cage.

Personal preference alert:
This game bores the crap out of me. The demo was utterly uninspiring in gameplay, story and graphics. (Graphics and animation of faces was great, everything else was very sub-standard - vehicles in particular brought me back to the PS1 days in terms of animation and texturing).
I am clearly not the target market for this sort of title. I can understand why others will love it, but for me the blend of movie and game is not what I desire from my entertainment.
Will not be buying.

Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
I downloaded the demo the other night and played it, and I am kinda in the middle.
At first I thought this game would just be all images and a horrible game all around. So I didnt rteally go in with an open mind...saying that, I actually dont mind the game.
Good graphics, seems like it would have ALOT of good story to it...BUT!!, the walking SUCKS. Why cant I run ANYWHERE?!? That made it horrible, if its such an indepth rpg...I should be able to choose how fast I want to walk or run.
Due to that I feel like it would make the game feel extremly slow to me. Good, but slower than hell.
Based on the demo 8 out of 10 from me. Good graphics, good sounds, good story, but I will drop 2 off JUST for having to walk EVERYWHERE.

Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
I like it!! I really enjoyed the story, graphics especially with animation of faces are impressive, and I'm currently starting my next playthrough to unlock other endings/scenarios. The choices you make and impact are well felt and have a lasting impression which did a great job with storytelling. It was more emotional than many games I have played. I enjoy other genres like FPS, RPG, platformers, fighting, etc. and Heavy Rain is definitely a nice departure from what is usually released.

Re: Heavy Rain Reviews & Impressions
Heavy Rain is an impressive feat. It's not exaggerating to say that it's an button-interactive movie, but that's not a bad thing. The interactivity pulls you into the game, and you genuinely feel for the characters that you control. The decisions, actions, and ideas that you take and have shapes your own story.
Graphics-wise: great stuff though it's really glitchy and the game froze on me once.
You need to play this game. Rental, whatever. It tries to be different and does different well.
