Call of Pripyat
Re: Call of Pripyat
In case you guys didn't know, there is a Steam "loyalty" special on Pripyat. If you already own one of the other STALKER games through Steam, then you can get Pripyat for $20 instead of $30.

Re: Call of Pripyat
I've encountered a pseudo-bug <mini-spoiler> at the Yanov base where I can't find shelter for the ex-Monolithians thanks to Duty not trusting me enough, which cannot be helped due to lack of rep-boosting tasks. I read that early on if you retained a certain PDA and handed it to the local Duty chief he wuold agree to help you but it's a stupid design decision at any rate</mini-spoiler> It's a small annoyance but I was hoping for once that a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game would be bug-free out-of-the-box!
Metro 2033 sounds interesting, but after the tasking romps through the Zone I think I'll be taking a rest from post-apocalyptic gaming

Re: Call of Pripyat
This game felt emptier than the previous games. And while the X8 lab was scary it had nothing on the first two games. Anyway I hope they're done with the engine it just doesn't feel up to the task anymore. There's little excuse not to use "advanced" conversation options either.

Emptier in a good way, or a bad way?Pulsar_t wrote:This game felt emptier than the previous games.

Mostly in a bad way.. The plains just aren't as dangerous. Of course I didn't dare venture out in night-time.
Also the faction wars thing is gone too, but I consider that a plus. The town of Pripyat is the scariest but even that can be a bit barren.

Re: Call of Pripyat
That sucks. I was looking forward to shooting random bandits. I don't know anything about the faction wars dealy since I haven't played through Clear Sky yet. (poor game's been sitting on my Hard Drive for about 2 months now) Killing Floor's just been eating up a lot of my PC Gaming time. (even if it does crash all the damn time)Pulsar_t wrote:Mostly in a bad way.. The plains just aren't as dangerous. Re: Call of Pripyat
Just thought I'd throw my two cents in. The SMRTR mod makes the game more dangerous to be walking around in. I once ran into a controller by the Stringray 5 crash, and another time I got ambushed by a bloodsucker and a controller. I felt that the game world of CoP was bigger in a sense than ShoC, even though it might be smaller if you actually look at the land size. With ShoC there isn't as much need to explore, especially with how stashes are empty until you get a location from someone. In CoP all the stashes are there from the get go, and if you emtpy one you'll get a "stash found" message even if you didn't have it marked on your PDA. I do agree, though, that the X8 lab wasn't nearly as creepy as the labs in ShoC.

Well folks, just wanted to say that I've moved in the opposite direction and am going back to the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. until I have enough money to buy the latest and Metro 2033. In the meantime, I'm checking out the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete 2009 mod, and it is gorgeous! Fixes a lot of the little things. I do wish some of the additional effects from Oblivion Lost were brought over, such as the random blowouts, but I'll get over it.
