It's just a remake. A great one, but it's still an early 80s quarter-muncher at its core. Pretty sad when that's the flagship title for a piece of hardware. I remember when this got Game of the Month in EGM and got something like two 10s and a 9. I was about 13 or 14 and didn't understand what was so cool about the original anyway -- I was floored when I saw those scores!

On a related note - does anyone here like Space Giraffe? I actually think it's quite interesting, though it's pretty difficult. Definitely worth a look if you like Tempest; programmed by Jeff Minter just like T2000.

Yes, it is a the great Atari Jaguar game. The problem is, you don't like it.

It's a pure tube shooter. What more can you expect of it? In the end, nothing. What more can you ask in a Tetris game, for example? Nothing, it's perfect as it is. You simply don't like those kind of games.

I've been curious about this game, but not enough to get a Jag for it. How are the Saturn and PSone versions?
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

I have the PS1 and the PC versions. I dunno, I hear some knock the PS1 Tempest X version but I think they both play great! The music and sound effects are a great huge wow factor when I demo at Car Shows. That and REZ, people always come around drawn in by all the Arcade sounds. I have recently downloaded the Typhoon version and it is supposed to be similiar to the Jag version. In all honesty I think all three play about the same. The Typhoon version does look graphically better though running in SVGA.

As a new Jag owner who is starting to question why he bought the system...

How does the Jag version of Tempest 2000 compare to Tempest X3 for the PS1? I've read about the game play differences on Wikipedia, and I don't know how significant they would be...

Also, wouldn't the graphics/music be superior on the PS1 port (which I already have)?

From what I read the Jaguar Tempest 2000 is supposed to be the best version. The PC version which has the the same name Tempest 2000, plays just like PS1 Tempest X. I like PC and PS1 versions both having great clear music tracks.

Typhoon, a free download for PC supposedly is a remake emulating the original Jaguar version. Maybe check that one out to get an idea. It does have better graphics, however I feel the game play is similar on to the PS1 version.

This game should be re-released on modern digital platforms.

Every time this topic gets bumped I get closer to breaking down and buying Tempest, a spinner, and an svideo cable. Typhoon 2001 has held me off thus far...
