I don't know about Comcast, but Time Warner has this thing called "Power boost" that'll give you faster speeds for a short period of time... supposed to aid in downloading big files. I would rather it just e a regular, standard speed, especially if they somehow think they could offer me less with just instances of faster speed... but I really don't know lol.

Looking up different ISPs in the area would be a good idea. Hopefully there'll be something around that is better than what you have currently.

have you got the notice about bandwidth limits ?
I got an email that the limit is 250gb per month as mentioned here, last month I was at 512gb and the previous I was over 300gb. this month I'm shure I'm near if not over 400gb.

I called and the woman on the phone said they could kick you for a year for abuse if they want.
she also said the limit was decided by some kind of federal body and not comcast. they have no extended bandwidth account available except for a business account.

it sucks but really, if you leave the faucet on 24/7 your gonna pay for more water. so it sorta makes sense to me...I do wish you could get a more liberal account though. but then I'd need to buy another TB drive sooner too.

anyway, the woman also said before they cut you off, they'd need to contact you via snail mail with a warning. because people often have several email accounts and don't always update their phone numbers, the notice would come by snail mail.

the email I got was a mass email about their bandwidth usage tool. the meter is in your account page.

limiting your downloading to 7gb per day will leave some left over for general net usage was suggested on another board I looked at.

my torrents are running slow too right now but I think it's just cause there's just one seed on both of them. the rep said they don't choke the flow...but I don't really know if it's true or not.

Call centre representatives know nothing. Trust me on this. I used to work in one, I was the only one who actually knew what the hell was going on, I got disciplined time and time again for telling the customer 'like it is' they just want you to lie to the customer. I told them to get fucked and got a better job.

no, I'm using uTorrrent, not aware of any encryption option.

I am using utorrent also. Options>Preferences>BitTorrent Protocol encryption Enabled.

I know Time Warner was checking out this option with various plans and price points depending on your needs (would NOT be a plan big enough for my consumption unless they offered a TRULY unlimited tier). However at the moment (in my location) they don't impose a rule on it... I would assume anyhow since I generally leave multiple torrents on dl/seeding for the majority of the day and that gets up to TBs of data transferred a month.

I never thought of PeerGuardian doing any fooling to your ISP... I don't believe that is a purpose of the program?

uTorrent and other trackers let you enable protocol encryption which is nice when you are dealing with an ISP that does throttle that kind of traffic. However, it won't do anything to help you if you're still exceeding your allotted bandwidth amount.
