Can't see why they wouldn't work - I have both Lunar and Sonic CD burned to CD-R and they both work fine. Have you tried getting them from Romhustler? My second choice is Doperoms.
Here's what I do:
To start with, I have the files from SCD Conv 2.5 to convert region in its own folder; to convert the region, I change the name of the iso to iso(.iso), then when it is converted I name it the same as what I will name the cue.
I put the Mp3 files into a seperate folder and use Switch Sound File Converter to convert and send the wav files to another folder. Then I put the iso in the folder the wavs are in, making sure nothing else is in there, then use Sega Cue Maker to make a cue.
Afterwards, I always test the cue file on Kega Fusion to make sure it works okay.
I use ImgBurn to burn to disc.
I burn at whatever the default speed is for ImgBurn.
I've just been doing some searching and found, "Some front loading models have bad quality lens system... Those lens cannot read properly scratched discs or non-standard cd's/CDR"
By the way, you just reminded me that I have Sonic Megamix on my computer - it didn't even occur to me to burn it! The one I have is a bin file, though.
Sega CD backups not playing
Re: Sega CD backups not playing
I've only tried 1 iso/mp3 rip, and that was the Lunar from coolroms. I was trying to get the bin/cue rips from the torrent working since I had downloaded a bunch of those to prepare for when I got the Sega CD. I'll download a few more iso/mp3 rips and try them out. The only problem is romhustler splits them into a bunch of different parts and it's annoying having to download a bunch of parts, I was hoping my torrent would just work, but oh well.
Oh, and my Sega CD is a model 2, and like I said Sonic Megamix works great (except for when I try to use the save function, then my Sega CD goes back to the bios screen after 1 level for some reason), so I guess it is just a problem with my rips/burns.
Edit: Just tried Lunar from Rom Hustler and nothing. Black screen after the Lunar title even though I pressed start. I used WinLame to convert the mp3s to wavs, then used Sega cue maker and burned with IMGburn. I didn't do anything about the region, since SCDConv won't run on Windows 7, and I assume since I got the title screen the region coding isn't the issue here?

Re: Sega CD backups not playing
I think SCDConv will work if you go to properties in the file called convert.bat and change the compatibility mode for Windows XP. You have to change the name of the iso to iso(.iso) for convert.bat to read it - otherwise it will close almost immediately after you run it; but indeed it wouldn't have gotten to the title screen if the region coding posed a problem.
I doubt it would help in this case but I'll note that I've read from a few people that just lightly tapping the side of the Sega CD (MDII) when Lunar crashes (due to track 20) usually gets it going again.
M'kay, I've been doing some searching and found this thread: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126516
The person who made the thread noted Sonic Megamix kept freezing before reaching the title screen when using his Sega CD but it didn't when using his friend's. He discovered the Genesis was the problem and it worked fine when he used a spare Model 1 Genesis.
One poster says, "Some revisions of the Model 2 Sega CD are finicky with certain games. Mine won't play The Terminator without freezing sometime in the first level. But I've heard of other people playing The Terminator on their Model 2's with no problem. Must be a BIOS thing, or a change in parts used, or something."
Seeing as Sonic Megamix works fine for you, I guess it can't be a problem with the make of CDs you are using; seeing as you tried the same roms I did, it can't be a problem with the images. That leaves either the SCD or the Genesis. If you have a spare Genesis, you can see if that works for you - otherwise, it looks like you were unlucky this time.
Just hope it works for Pier Solar.

Re: Sega CD backups not playing
Track 20 in Lunar is Boss fight music I think, right? I don't think that would help me since the game is freezing right after the title screen, as are most of the other games I've tried (Android Assault, Popful Mail). The only games that work are Sonic CD (which doesn't have any music once I get in-game...makes it boring to play) and Sonic Megamix, which works great. I'll give tapping it a shot, though.Pingfa wrote:I think SCDConv will work if you go to properties in the file called convert.bat and change the compatibility mode for Windows XP. Thanks for bringing my attention to the fact that it could be the Genesis though. I may try getting another one. Though I won't be happy about it...I've had this Genesis since I was a kid, which is why I bought Pier Solar and the Sega CD in the first place, to have fun with my Gensis.
They say on the Pier Solar forums that the CD it comes with will be a nice pressed CD, not just some CD-R, so I'm hopeful. Also the fact that the game itself is on a cart, and only uses the Sega CD for playing better quality music and additional sound effects.
