Problems with my copy of Chrono Trigger
Re: Problems with my copy of Chrono Trigger
Ok then. Thank you so much! You really helped me out on this.

Not a problem. And welcome to the forums!
Also, I edited in a little more info in my last post.

Re: Problems with my copy of Chrono Trigger
When replacing the game save battery, do you suggest soldering the connectors or using electrical tape to insert a new battery?
Re: Problems with my copy of Chrono Trigger
If you go through the trouble of getting the connectors off the old battery, you can't solder them back onto a new battery. You can't solder to the battery, period. They're actually spot welded on. While the tape method works, I don't think I'd ever do that. It just doesn't seem right.
What I would do is desolder the positive and negative leads from the PCB without ever detaching them from the battery. You can buy CR2032's with those connectors already on them. They cost a little more this way, but you get a better end result. And you don't have to go through the hassle of removing the clips from the old battery (which is a pain) and trying to tape them securely to a new one.
You could also just get a battery holder like the ones found in PCs. In fact, if you have a junk PC lying around you can just rip one off. But be aware, if you want to solder a battery holder onto the PCB and have it fit in the case, the battery holder has to be extremely thin.
Or, since you have a lot of empty space inside the cart, you could use a more bulky holder. Just use wire to go from the battery holder to the PCB so you can have the holder up above the PCB.

That isn't a slide in battery holder on that board with some tape around it though?

I think you're right. The battery isn't actually soldered onto the game; there's a little holder on top of it that is. I just checked and I can easily slide out the battery and slide it back in. There are some ends on the top that touch the battery below it. The ends on the holder are soldered into the game.Hobie-wan wrote:That isn't a slide in battery holder on that board with some tape around it though?
EDIT: Wait is it as easy as I think it is to replace the battery then? Just slide this one out and slide a new one in?

Re: Problems with my copy of Chrono Trigger
So I went to Radioshack and bought a few batteries and am now in the process of changing the batteries. I've been sitting here tinkering with it for awhile now. I'm putting them with the flat side touching the top of the slide-in connector. Sometimes it saves, but then it goes back to not saving. I'll start a new game, it'll save at The Millennial Fair but then the next save will go to The Trial (which I know means the saves aren't working). Sometimes the saves will disappear and then reappear in the save menu but I can't load them. It's like it saves and then once I navigate away from the save menu they disappear.
Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe the SRAM is screwed up.

I don't exactly know what that is but you're probably right.
