Many male leads, but if you are looking for female leads there was Nightshade for the PS2, which was Shinobi related and also made by Sega.

Personally, I hated how the DMC games forced you to constantly alternate combos and switch weapons to keep your style rating up. Frankly, I find it hard enough just worrying about how I'm going to survive in games like this. I don't really want to have to worry about being fancy too. That's what I like about NG games, the focus is just you finding what works for any situation and just sticking to it. It's not about making it look pretty, just getting the damn job done. I think it's admirable how DMC games force you to CONSTANTLY switch things up, but for me it's just annoying

I like Ninja Gaiden becuase it's so god damn fast and you have to counter a lot which I enjoy doing. Devil May Cry I enjoy because it's so over the top and everything changes up so much I can't get bored. Bayonetta basically combines both of these and throws in the sega flavour to everything.

I wouldn't call it slutty. Maybe over sexualized, but she is one of the few characters who feels like they are doing it out of their character, and not as a means to seduce more players. At least that's how it appears so far. In just about every comment I've read about the game, people are bitching and moaning about how improportionate she is, or how ugly she is. I think Bayonetta is an awesome character because she taunts and teases but does so with confidence because she knows she is powerful and can kick some fucking ass. Lara Croft, BloodRayne, Rachel, Kasumi, Ayane, are all characters with "attractive" proportions and are sexualized for the sake of being sexualized. They have ludicrous breasts to try and real in players. None of those characters are self conscious of the fact that they have massive tits or why they dress the way they do. I'd say characters like that are slutty. Bayonetta doesn't give a shit, and she will tease, taunt, and break people's necks because she damn well feels like it. I could be full of shit too, as the game isn't out yet, but this is what I'm getting from religiously following trailers and info on the game. Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to say.

I'm going to first say I'm guilty of not reading this thread but I wanted to offer any of my knowledge for anyone who hasn't played this yet. I imported it for the 360 and boy is this thing full of "easter eggs" and references to other/older games. It's fantastic! Right now I'm finishing up the Non-Stop Infinite Climax mode (Hardest Setting) and working on a few ... things (don't want to spoil). The game was amazing (broken record?) for any fan of the Action game genre.

Bayonetta isn't exactly "slutty" but as someone mentioned over sensationalized/sexualized. The entire game is over the top and it works out just fine for it. But, if you feel it may offend you, this game might not be for you. =) I would like to say, however, that Ninja Gaiden isn't the best reference. Especially since this is Platinum Games (once Clover Studios before Capcom shut their doors). It's more of God Hand with a DMC play style.

I'd be glad to answer any questions about the game or it's mechanics.

I'd equate Bayonetta with the Bride in Kill Bill. Yeah, she is sexualized (thats not a real word) but she uses it to her advantage. I mean, dudes who kick ass strut about, flex muscles and say witty quips. Women go crazy for that shit, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale anybody? Nothing wrong with women doing the same thing.

Edit: anybody see the video of the enemy who literally rubs her vagina and moans?

I think you're talking about Joy, if I remember correctly. There's a pretty cruel torture attack you can hit them with to boot. There's a lot more to this game than the Joys. Not sure I get the fascination I've seen with it so far. =]

Edit: Haha, okay, there's a video above that I didn't even see posted. That's exactly what I was referring to. >.<

Did they actually leave that in the US version? Sounds like the sort of thing people would throw a hissy fit over in this part of the world
