Re: Recommendations for high priced consoles. Now a poll
I'm not familiar with many of the games for it, but I think the FM Towns Marty is the most interesting choice on the list assuming there are some games to justify it.

To be honest I don't think there is price wise, but it does seem to have some of the best arcade ports of the time. I don't know much about the FM towns but it seems one of the rarer systems on the list.Hobie-wan wrote:I'm not familiar with many of the games for it, but I think the FM Towns Marty is the most interesting choice on the list assuming there are some games to justify it.

If I had the money, I'd get the AES, even if I already owned a Neo Geo CD.

The AES is probably the most expensive there. I'd be more interested in the MSX 2 honestly.

If we're talking pure gaming value here, I'd have to give my vote to MSX 2. Not the most successful of systems, but it does have some good titles, some of which were exclusive. FM Towns Marty and CD32 also had a fair amount of games, though I'm not sure how they hold up. I know the Marty is known for some arcade perfect ports, which gives it a pretty big edge in my book.
The main utility in the Jag CD is not the official games (I think Hover Strike is the only decent one), but in the homebrew utility. Since not all programmers have the option of publishing, no less publishing to cartridge, a lot of homebrew is only available in CD form.
For collection purposes, the AES is easily your best bet. I can't in good conscious recommend a system only for a collection though, so it wouldn't get my vote. A consolized MVS is a much more sensible option in my mind. Some AES games are affordable, sure, but many of my favorite picks for the system are in the thousands.
I've been tempted to get a Laseractive as well, if not just for the Laserdisc games, but it really doesn't have anything worth purchasing. For collecting purposes, though, Laserdisc games are pretty badass. For that reason alone it has a fair number of exclusives, even if they aren't very good (though who knows - hardly anyone owns them). If you already own a TurboDuo and Sega CD, the overall value diminishes greatly.

Heys guys I made my choice and by you guys post on this poll I think most of you will dissagree with me, but I couldn't pass this deal up.
I am getting a Atari Jaguar CD w/ 8 games including the rare Primal Rage, and a FM Towns Marty II w/ 1 game. I will eventual get a Neo Geo AES but I am getting both of these for $400.00.

I would seriously make sure the thing works before you buy it. They have failure rates that make the 360 look like that one gameboy that survived the bombing in Desert Storm. The AVGN went through two without getting either to work.
