Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
Hmm. This would alleviate most of my lust for translated carts - which ziggy I still havent found a suitable donor cart.
Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
So... do they plan on adding compatibility for more special chips later? There are too many good games on their "current" incompatibility list.
Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
As I said earlier, I wouldn't count on it. We're lucky to have on board DSP1 support (without the need of a T-connector). Adding support for multiple chips would be very complicated, and drive the price way up (I imagine). Not to mention the physical size of the cart would be much larger. Maybe they left themselves open for a possible T-connector that can add support for a different chip, but I didn't see that anywhere on the site.
As far as the repro world goes, the only thing that would be missed that this flash cart can't play is Star Fox 2, and that game is easy enough to make a repro of. The rest of the games on the list are cheap enough just to buy with the exception of a few. I don't think they care to add support for the CX4 chip just for 2 games (Mega Man X2 and X3). The Kirby's and Mario RPG will be missed, and they're not that cheap to buy (although not that expensive either).
After I get one, I think I'm gonna write up a comparison on them (since I'll own both) as they each have pros and cons. Would any one be interested in this? I'm gonna do it anyway.

I was always recommending ToToTEK's flash cart as a means to play translated games, and now this cart is out. It's $25 (plus the cost of a CF card and reader) more but since it's not limited in size I'd say it's a better flash cart.fastbilly1 wrote:Hmm. I would be much obliged for a comparison.

Oh man...I saw this thread and flipped out. Mine is ordered! I've been waiting to play a bunch of translated games on real hardware so this is awesome!

I feel like no one knows that THIS FLASH CART has been available for quite some time now. It's also worth noting that it recently got a massive price cut (now $60, was $95 when I purchased mine) possibly to compete with Retro Zone's new product.
Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
In terms of ease of use I think the RetroZone cart beats out the Tototek handily. And when you have to toss in things like the T-connector the Tototek gets more expensive (though still cheaper than the RZ).

Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
I was never a big fan of tototek. Ive known of their SNES cart for years, and played with a friends, but it seemed off slightly. Now it might have been a defect in his cart but it kinda put me off of their products.
Re: SNES powerpak from retro zone!!!
Well you only need the T-connector if you don't have an original Nintendo CIC chip, which Tototek will install on the cart for an extra $5. I think the fact that the Retro Zone cart can take a CF card and potentially hold every compatible ROM while the Tototek cart can only hold 64Mbits of games at a time makes the Retro Zone cart and instant winner in my mind. However, the Tototek cart does have have some advantages over the Retro Zone cart that I can see. I'll wait until I get one from Retro Zone before I draw a full comparison.MrPopo wrote:In terms of ease of use I think the RetroZone cart beats out the Tototek handily. I'd also like to point out what I just read on Tototek's front page, apparently the price cut on the Super Flash Cart is only temporary. There's also a price cut on both size Genesis/Mega Drive flash carts, as well as the PCE Pro Flash Cart. I might have to take advantage of this sale price and pick up a Genesis cart.
Really? I've been nothing but extremely happy with my flash cart. Works perfectly.fastbilly1 wrote:I was never a big fan of tototek.
