Re: The future sure isn't living up to it's promises
I say we've either got a cool future with awesome space exploration and Star Trek like technological advances or we're going to hit the technological singularity and be killed by our own technological advances.

Re: The future sure isn't living up to it's promises
Since approximatly the year 2000, people have starting to turn into mindless don't-give-a-shit-and-don't-think zombies more and more. All hope is lost. Also too much money is lost on silly stuff like space exploration/war & marketing. These activities should be outlawed and serve no good (enough to warrant their price) purpose. etc. etc.
Still waiting on that hover board. But then I am a former semi-pro skateboarder, so I don' really need a hover board that much:mrgreen: would be cool.

This pretty much takes what I have to say, and makes it funny.

I'd like to think we're ahead of schedule. Star Trek had us still thinking wireless phones were going to be a big deal, and NOBODY foresaw the miniaturization of computers, or the uses they have today. Also, we've beaten Evangelion by the simple fact we don't use cassette players anymore.
I do still want my jetpack though.

To me, I think the future is just going to be like Blade Runner, the future will just indulge with advertisements, everywhere you go will be a cluster fuck, and we will have Replicants just kill everyone that gets in there way.

Re: The future sure isn't living up to it's promises
Our current consumption patterns are not sustainable in the long run right now! thinking of wasting more energy on hoverboards, flying cars, massive 3d display tech, etc is just not feasible at this point in time. The US powergrid wouldnt be able to cope with a large influx of new electronic gadgetry on a large scale. We also dont have the powerplants and logistical capacity to make it happen at the moment. Not to mention the fact that the cost of all combustible fuels would go through the roof if energy demands spiral out of control more then they already have. Its a simple physical limitation that we are running into. The amount of energy held in this planet is fixed. The only accessible source we have atm is fossil fuels (oil, gas) which have biological origin and take millions of years to develop. Geothermal energy is hopefully accessible in the future. Wind, tidal, solar energy all based on the external input from the sun, and though this is a practically unlimited source, our capacity for harvesting this energy on a large scale efficiently currently doesnt exist. Hopefully more research into room temperature superconductors, nuclear fusion, advanced composite materials will allow humanity to deploy more electric energy to peoples homes and communities in the comming decades. If this wont be the case we will only see our mobility and quality of life drop due to dwindling resources of almost every kind.

I'm shocked no one has posted this:
^Kevin Smith's flying car. It's too damn funny, gotta watch the whole thing.
