I've been using my R4 for 2 years now. It has no fancy features, no SDHC support, no built in ram. But the damn thing works. And it has never failed me. Only once has my DS stopped working all together and that was when I left it with a 4year old for a few hours.

Instead of making a new thread I guess it would be best to just post it here. I'm looking to get back into my Nintendo DS. I have the original version, got it about 2 weeks after release. I was wondering what do I need to get so I can play emulators, nintendo DS roms, and etc. I'm not sure about the compatitibility of the cards and what software I need. Where can I buy these cards as well? Thanks.

Is there a good place to find them these days? Everywhere I look they seem to be out of stock. I wish mine hadn't broken...

is the GBA cart necessary for the flash card to work? I'm thinking about the DSTT. What is the biggest TF card I can get?

If you get a slot 1 cart, you shouldn't need anything in the GBA slot (slot 2).

Slot 1 cart as far as I know mostly work with storage on the side (e.g. you need to use a micro SD card on a Cyclo DS cart), so the size will depend on the SD card you buy more than on the choice of the cart. However, if the cart supports SDHC you can buy rather large capacity SD cards for it.
