At least you didn't get a "please next time use the search function and don't waste our time" reply.fastbilly1 wrote:Bugger, I thought I was original and wouldnt have to search the forums. Sorry folks.

Re: How to Clean or Fix Sega Saturn Cart Slot
Well, looks like it's my turn. Just took out my Saturn for the first time since my move, and the memory cart slot seemed to be working. When I went to view the contents of my memory card, there was a save file that appeared to be named with a bunch of random characters (uhoh, that can't be good). I tried to erase it, and the Saturn just froze (of course). I gave it a bit, but then I just tried to turn it off, even though I knew that wouldn't be too good during a memory card read/write.
Anyhow, I turn it back on, and now it doesn't recognize the card. Like everyone else's slot, mine is finicky as well, so I tried to power on and off a few times in hopes it might recognize it (trying to reseat the cart in between a few tries).
Still no luck. I tried my ARP 4-in-1, and it wasn't being recognized either. Ugh. I came here for some quick ideas, and the overall consensus was 'the pins are not making contact'. Well, I didn't want to spend the time taking apart my Saturn, and bending pins (with my luck, I would destroy the cart slot), so I went ahead and tried a quick 'hack' solution. I jammed a piece of paper in behind the cart (so it would push it forward). I power on the Saturn, and luckily for me, it now recognizes the ARP every time. However, the Memory Card Plus still isn't recognized, even with the paper trick. I guess I will mess with it later.
Anyhow, not the most elegant solution, but if you aren't able to get it working some other way, try to jam something behind the cart (or in front might work too) so that there is no give between the cart and the edge of the slot. Perhaps this will damage the pins further over time, but I really have nothing to lose if it won't recognize carts anyhow (I guess unless it damages my ARP).
Let me know if this works for anyone else.
OK, time to play some Shining Wisdom...
