See my Game Room. I live to display and not to play. And it's not for any lack of desire because all my games are from personal choice but because I just don't have the time. But a complete case is a must for CD based games. I will spend the extra money if need be to have it complete.
Now I know some people go nutzo over the whole registration card (one bad Ebay seller experiance.) But I'm not that bad. Original box (no Greatest Hits), manual, and cover art. And I never buy anything off Ebay with a pic. Won't even ask I'll move along, to many bad experiances. A picture is worth a thousand words ...

For CD games and DS games, I'd prefer there to be a case of some kind when I buy it. However, I have a nice CD book I put them all in anyways, so it may be moot point. However, being in a jewel case of some kind assures me that the previous owner gave a crap about them.
For cartridge games, most I bought were either some iteration of gameboy or N64. These came in crappy cardboard cases, and I usually pitched them out. Of course I was younger, but whatev.

Seems like comleteness is very much preferred. I really dont mind just the disc. So many people put games into bunders and tossed the case. Yeah, that sucks but I end up getting a cheap and most of the time playable game that ordinarily I would not get. Most of us cant throw 50 bucks at FF7 but I would happily pay ten for the disc. Just to gt to play it from the original disc is awesome. Though in the end I would love to have all complete if possible.

i hate, hate, hate, hate, hate cd binders.
that's all. carry on.

I know this thread is old, but I'm looking at collecting some PS games and perhaps Dreamcast too. But just the discs. I love being nostalgic as much as the next guy, but I have stacks of old magazines for that. I have 250+ music cds with original cases and what not, but I have a cabinet full of them empty cases and store the discs in wallet binders. This is primarily as I do a radio show and it's easier to carry all my music. The main reason I would like to do this with game discs is that disc-only games tend to be dirt cheap. Ebay is good for this actually. Plus the fact that most Dreamcast/PS game cases got cracked or have missed spindle bits. Mine did anyway.

It is rather amazing how much the value of any given disc based game will drop like a rock when it's missing its case, especially for stuff like Sega Saturn.

I have actually tried to find a game CD only couple of times when I've had the game case but no game CD because either the previous owner lost the game or the game disc doesnt work. If any one has a PAL Sonic Jam CD for Sega Saturn for sale, I'm intrested

People who care about Manuals in their games NOW. I mean, half the manuals are nothing more than the button layouts (which are in game), the seizure warnings, and, if you're lucky, a brief introduction to the game and a list of the characters, weapons, and items
Yeah, you did say now, but back in the day you usually couldn't even play the game if it was something complex like RPG/dungeon crawler/simulator/strategy game if you didnt have the guide. It also acted as copy protection often. And yeah, back in the day you got awesome cover art, background info/lore/story and some times some really funny writing with manuals, but nowadays manuals indeed are pretty irrelevant and poorly done 99% of the time.
But I do say that it feels that something is missing when you open a game and there is no manual inside, even if you never plan on reading the manual

I personally like to check out the masterminds behind the game if its a really good game every now and then, so the manual is a nice way to check them.

In general I try to get complete CD games. But if I find a cheap disc-only game I jump on it. I have lots of disc-only DOS games from thrift stores. I'm not going to put much effort into hunting down the original manuals/packaging because it's not that important to me.
Periodically I will buy a stack of empty jewel cases from Staples. If I buy a used game with a cracked/broken/gummy case I'll replace it immediately (I do this for nearly every thrift store find).

I just remembered
I have a disc only copy of disc 2 of Rival Schools. Just disc 2.
Luckily you can still play that disc by itself no problem, and it's still a DAMN fun game, but I've always wanted the other disc...

Yeah I have some disc-related things that irk me. Like, some of my games have greatest hits packaging but regular discs... or vice versa. And my copy of Xenogears has a regular disc one and greatest hits disc two.
