which console is the most reliable... which is the worst.
Re: which console is the most reliable... which is the worst.
I have never had my game boy pocket or my N64 mess up at all. I have an SNES, and few problems with it. I've never had problems with Nintendo cartridge based systems... outside of the NES. I had an xbox die, and an xbox 360 mess up, but the customer service is good for the 360's so it isn't that bad.
Systems: Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Game Boy Pocket (2), Game Boy Color, GBA SP (2), DS

I'm not going to say anything in an attempt to not get jinxed.

Yeah, I pretty much feel the same way. My dad bought a sony digital camera because he was going to Alaska, it broke there and we he got back a week later Sony told him to take it back to the store he bought it from. The store told him to call Sony. Around and around they went till I guess finally someone told him he voided the warranty by taking it to Alaska. So, I guess their products don't work in Alaska. When I sold videogames retail in college during the launch years of the PS2 we would have a console come back daily and we couldn't return it because Sony wouldn't give the store credit. We were told to tell the customer to call Sony and they would fix it. The customer would call Sony and they would tell themt to take it back to the store, there was nothing they could do. Round and round we went.Niode wrote:Every Sony piece of hardware I've ever owned has crapped out on me well before it should have done.
Niode wrote:I don't think i'm ever going to buy anything Sony branded ever again. Everything I've had from them has been absolutely shocking. PS1 - broke. PS2-DREs had to soft mod it just to keep playing games on it. Minidisc player, buttons stopped working on it after just a year. Sony Trinitron tube bust after just 2 years. Sony walkman - disk read errors after just a year. VCR - seek errors(aka it chews tapes up if you try to rewind them) after 1 year. Sony Hi-Fi CD player - refused to read any CDs - got laser adjusted by professional - lasted another year before the drive mechanism gave up the ghost. You get the picture. Everything I've ever had that was Sony has lasted for the warrenty period then died. The only things that have lasted longer have been the consoles, but with them it's just a matter of time anyway. Maybe i'm just really unlucky but it's enough to put me off the brand for life.
Re: which console is the most reliable... which is the worst.
most reliable has got to be my Nintendo 64. got it around launch as a kid and i have never had a problem system wise.
least: i hate to say it because i love the games put out for the systems but ps1 and ps2 crap out badly. went through two ps1 and two ps2's. and saw a few others that friends owned die on them too.

worst second release of the orignal playstation(aka PSone) i removed the controller from it while it was on and it just stopped working...this happened to me twice...got one already broken that wouldn't read disks, another one wouldn't turn on out of the box, the last one finally worked and it ended up getting stolen
this is the only system ive ever had any problems with*knock on wood*

Surprised more aren't saying Xbox 360, considering the enormous fail rate (http://kotaku.com/5339555/report-xbox-3 ... 50-percent) and the fact that it hasn't even been around for four years yet. I'd imagine by their seventh year, the fail rate becomes 100%.
As for the best, I'd say most Nintendo products since the SNES. The only Nintendo product I've ever had fail on me was the Wii (Smash Bros refused to eject - I guess there are worse games to have stuck in my Wii). Other than that, I've had no problem with Nintendo as far as reliability is concerned.
I suppose I'm lucky in that my launch PS2 is still alive and kicking. Doesn't even have trouble reading discs, though I've always maintained it as best as I can.

Yup it's the PS2 5000 series which was the last revision of the original PS2 in which Sony pulled out all of the stops to get a real tank in the hands of the hardcore for the FFXI and HDD launch and to be sure gamers would have a system with as few breakdowns as possible before launching the Slim PS2 later that year.noiseredux wrote:it seems to me there's a certain really good model of PS2. Yeah I've got a silver 5000 series PS2. Very reliable for me up to now. It's my most used system and has never given any problems at all.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Yup it's the PS2 5000 series which was the last revision of the original PS2 in which Sony pulled out all of the stops to get a real tank in the hands of the hardcore for the FFXI and HDD launch and to be sure gamers would have a system with as few breakdowns as possible before launching the Slim PS2 later that year.noiseredux wrote:it seems to me there's a certain really good model of PS2. I got it back then mostly because here in South Africa it was one of the earliest devices to offer progressive scan output on movies for dvd.
