Re: Why I LOVE the SEGA Saturn so much...
I love my N64 better, but thats mostly nostalgia. I picked up the saturn this year and starting actually buying ps1 titles also. I was never a fan of only 3d games even with all the hype during that time. That was probably what dissapointed me the most about the n64 too much 3d even the 2d games looked 3d. That being said I think that it is a legitamate arguement to say the saturn was better because of all the better 2d games. If I only liked 3d games could I really call myself a retro gamer and then why am I on this site.
I look at it this way if you love RPGs or just want a console with the most variety stick with ps1. If you really love 3d games N64 is the way to go. If you want the best 2d at that time and unique games a Saturn is for you. If you love all video games get all three.
I do not have a single burnt game or import for my saturn and i am happy with all the games i could get. I love the 3d controller it is one of my favorite.

Yeah, I bugged out when I found that news on Shining Force Central. I can't wait until they are finished!MrPopo wrote:I finally picked up a Saturn because the Shining Force III translation project had really picked up steam and you could see that we really could expect a finished translation in a few years.
Did you play Shining the Holy Ark? I really like that game a lot.MrPopo wrote: I then did some research and picked up a few other RPGs on the system: the other Shining games, PDS, Dragon Force, and Albert Odyssey. I probably won't be getting any more Saturn games simply because I have all the ones for my genre of choice.
The only con about it is that it has to be the weakest cartridge slot on a system. It seems like it fragile and can wear out easily.d123456 wrote:I don't see that as a major con at all.
Weird. I own all those games too save for Sim City 2000 (but I use to have it). I really hated that version. It ran too slow to be playable, just like the SNES version.lisalover1 wrote:Actually, that's exactly what happened for me. I bought my Saturn for no reason, and it came with Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, Mortal Combat 3, and SimCity.
I would love to get in on that, but gathering 4 or 8 (after the two that I own) controllers would be impossible. I'm the only one I know (not including the interweb) that even owns a Saturn.lisalover1 wrote: What maintains it's interest to me today is it's 10-player multiplayer in Saturn Bomberman and 6-player Guardian Heroes.
Re: Why I LOVE the SEGA Saturn so much...
I always tell people that I feel very strongly about import gaming, and my love of the Sega Saturn is like the perfect example of that. In the short amount of time I had a working Sega Saturn (less than a year, I think), I managed to accumulate more titles in my Saturn line-up than any of my other systems, and about three out of four of them were imports.
The first two games I got for my Saturn were Vampire Savior and Die Hard Arcade, and I'd still be playing them now if I had a working Saturn. The amount of obscure but good games for the Saturn makes it perfect for party-gaming. Nothing like throwing in Ninku, Battle Monsters or Galaxy Fight and having fun with the zaniest of zany fighting games. I'm still wanting a copy of Sokuko Seitokai: Sonic Council and Rabbit.

dreamcast > saturn
Re: Why I LOVE the SEGA Saturn so much...
Debatable. I personally think the Saturn is superior, just because there are a lot of obscure fighting games and shmups on it. Sure, Dreamcast has a lot of fighting games, but they're pretty much all Capcom or SNK.ac_90 wrote:dreamcast > saturn
Dreamcast certainly has a library that is easier to access, even if you were to toss out burning games, but the Saturn is pretty much its own thing. Many Dreamcast exclusives eventually found their way to other systems (Chu Chu Rocket, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2, Ikaruga, Rez, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Guilty Gear X, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, and Shenmue 2 being the ones I remember off the top of my head that went to other systems), the Saturn, on the other hand, hasn't had many of their games go to other systems. At least, I don't really consider X-Men vs Street Fighter on the PSX to be in any way comparable to the Saturn version. The only Saturn games that have been re-released to my recollection are NiGHTS, Die Hard Arcade and Panzer Dragoon, and Sega was smart enough to never bring those outside of Japan. (Sarcasm)

I have Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter on PSX and its horrible, but its worth a lot of money right now so I'm not complaining. Saturn never got much credit besides being the system that got oversold by PSX. Saturn was my first system I purchased, so I have good memories even though I only had it for a couple of months(I bought it back later).the7k wrote:Debatable. Great point about Sega ... Playstation screwed the pooch on Capcom vs titles. I didn't even know there was a Marvel vs Capcom on the Dreamcast till about two years ago. Sold my crap PSX title and have loved Sega fighters ever since.

Re: Why I LOVE the SEGA Saturn so much...
I love my Saturn to death. I'm glad I picked mine up when I did. Before I bought mine, I always knew and heard about how it wasn't entirely successful here in the states. In fact, I never knew anyone who actually owned one. But when I learned of it's success in Japan and all the unreleased titles that came out over there, I decided to go for it. It was probably the best gaming decision I've ever made, right next to buying up most of my Dreamcast games during the "everyone trading in their DC stuff to perorder the PS2" era.
Dragon Ball Z: Shin Butoden was the game that made me buy the console, because at the time I was collecting Dragon Ball games. I bought the game and the console bundle (came with 6 games) at the same time off of eBay. Darius Gaiden came with the bundle and it's the reason for my love for the shmup genre.

Re: Why I LOVE the SEGA Saturn so much...
I bought a Saturn purely for the shmups, and I haven't played anything but japanese shmups on it since I got it. I just finished a switchless region mod on it not too long ago, also.
