Didn't notice this thread. I've been checking your site every now and then to see if you've finished the list yet.
Anyhew, it doesn't seem right that the games have to allow you to shoot 360 degrees to class as a Run 'n Gun - otherwise, what list could the likes of Atomic Runner for Mega Drive/Genesis be on?
Also, while I haven't played Twinkle Tale, I've seen screenshots of it; I thought it should be classified as a shmup.
Let's see...
Adventures of Batman and Robin
Chaos Engine/Soldiers of Fortune
Robocop Vs Terminator
Sunset Riders
I can't remember wether you can shoot 360 degrees in Demolition Man or not, but that's another good one - MD/Genesis version; I've read bad things about the SNES version.

EWJ is really more of a platformer in my opinion, since there's such an emphasis on jumping and swinging and it doesn't really have the neverending onslaught of enemies pacing that you see that you usually see in run 'n guns. Rest assured, though, when I get to the top platformers list EWJ will definitely be on it.Mr.White555 wrote: And I just remembered.... NO ONE MENTIONED EARTHWORM JIM???????!!!!!!
Pingfa, thanks for the recommendations. Chaos Engine/Soldiers is definitely already in the top10. Adventures is going to at least make the recommended list (I wish the music was a little less modern and their was more variety to the enemy onslaught.). Robocop vs. Terminator feels a little stiff in the play control department, and I found the level designs a bit dull. It also seemed like I could just grab that homing weapon and race through the early levels effortlessly. As for Sunset Riders, it's pretty amusing graphically, but I found it really lacking in the sound department.Pingfa wrote: Let's see...

Still gotta check out Demolition Man...

True enough. I was just thinking of whatever I could come up with, which clearly wasn't much - and for some reason I was concentrated on Genesis/MD run 'n guns.timewarpgamer wrote:Pingfa, thanks for the recommendations. I thought the same of Adventures' at first, but then it occured to me that most - even the quality ones - run 'n guns have a lack of variety in that department. Still, it is more repetitive than most and I don't think much of the music.
Anyhew, I figure I should note that the MD and SNES versions of Sunset Riders are quite different.
Looking forward to the list.

Re: Top 10 Run 'N Guns for 8- and 16-bit Consoles
Very nice list. I haven't played Guerilla War or Jackal yet, but I plan to buy them sooner or later. I haven't played any TG-16 games, so I haven't heard of any the TG-16 titles.
There doesn't seem to be many quality Run 'n Guns for 8-bit and 16-bit machines. Still, what we do have is mostly pretty good, I think.
I just thought of two others:
Eswat
GunForce
I don't recall either of them being particularly great, but there's definitely some fun to be had with them.
I really need to get myself a Mega Drive with a 50-60hz switch because playing Gunstar Heroes in 50hz with borders really diminishes the fun for me. I actually find it somewhat dull in 50hz.
Anyhow, looking forward to the Top Strategy Games list; now that I can help you with. Just unfortunate we don't have a Strategy section in the forum - hint hint, Racket.
Only problem is, I can think of so many good Strategy games for SNES, Genesis and NES, but it would take quite a bit of time to go through them all - although many (most, maybe) of them would be Koei games which are all very similar, so you could probably shave off a few Koei titles.

Cybernator is Assault Suits Valken, Target Earth is Assault Suits Leynos 1, andAssault Suits Leynos/Valken 2 were only released in Japan and kept their names as such.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Isn't Target Earth the First Assault Suit Leynos (Known as Cybernator in the US.) game?hashiriya1 wrote:Target Earth is still my fave!
