Does anybody really put themselves so seriously in the role of the character on the screen that they'd feel any alienation due to the character's gender or race? How many people out there put on a game like Stranglehold and were like "What the hell, I'm a damned Chinese guy?!" And how many white guys out there bought the new Ghostbusters game just because you can finally play as Winston (in multiplayer)?
Even in Japan, most of their best-selling games star all-Chinese casts of characters, and a lot of the gamers who obsess over those same games are, in reality, racist as hell against Chinese people!
This probably isn't the place to say this, but...they're just games.

My game-related blog.
Re: Video Games Are a White Man's World
Hahaha, yeah KholdStare, a lot of people think that way. If it makes you feel any better, I consider Tekken absurdly slow. Virtua Fighter's extremely complex, and there's a strange rhythm to it, but once you start to get the feeling it can actually become a pretty fast-paced game.
Some folks claim the learning curve on Virtua Fighter's pretty much a vertical climb. It's really not that bad, but it's certainly not easy.

I don't know What games you play but most of my games are starring Animals other then humans, some kind of vehicle, or an anime character.
I didn't even know atari characters were even a race unless you call them the blips.
where did they get there figures 80% white 11% black. They must of only played Xbox games made in america other then sports titles.

Their methodology sucks at a lot of levels. For example they weight games by popularity. Well, if Mario were black then the data will be inversed.
Also it's not videogames being "biased", but the stereotypes are. Simply, the TF2 cast is all male because you expect them to be male, you expect the Engineer to be texan and the Spy to be. In fact the Demoman hangs a lampshade there by saying that he is a "Scotish black cyclops, how rare is that?".
What is sad is feminist and idiots thinking Lara Croft is great because she is a girl in a men world or something like that

Re: Video Games Are a White Man's World
I think it only truly matters in games that are trying to tell some kind of story. It's a worthwhile goal to attempt to make things more like the people who play them.
