So what kind of work brings you to Dubai? How long do you see yourself staying there?

Do you live in some sort of compound for foreigners (I think Saudi Arabia has this sort of thing)?

Selling drugs can get you the death penalty in both Dubai and Saudi Arabia, so they have at least one thing in common.

are you anti middle east or something? both your posts have been negative comments for no real reason at all - firstly, im not arab so you dont have to worry. Secondly, im not a drug dealer, so i dont have to worry. Thirdly - You dont get death penalty for Drugs in Dubai - Saudi yes, but hey you also do in singapore.

Fourthly, its a video game forum - so why all the hate for the middle east?

Maybe he just likes drugs. Other than that, we've had guys from all over pop up on the forums, and I don't remember him ever having trouble with kingmohd, our man in Bahrain. But maybe I'm just not remembering. We've got lots of Yankees(even if all the Americans aren't from north of the Mason-Dixon Line, you blue blooded Yankee bastards), Brits, Aussies, and a couple Kiwis, as well as folks from South Africa, guys in Japan, the rest of Europe, Canada, at least one active Brazilian and another Panamanian. An Aussie in the UAE is more than welcome.

I'll be perfectly honest, I've got mixed feelings towards the nation. Members of my family have had layovers there and their airport security has always seemed to make it a point to be less than pleasant. But I don't know about the rest of the area, and politically relations between the UAE and US are good, at least to my knowledge.

But on to the important stuff. Chief, nice setup! If you're having to go through Play-Asia, I'm gonna guess you're getting lots of NTSC-J stuff, but when you do find titles locally, what region are they? Do you meet a lot of folks over there who also play games?

gaming community is getting strong here but NOTHING like USA or even aus to be honest. the thing i like about the US most are the kind of "flea market" type things were you can pick up cheap 2nd hand items - i like the idea of bargain hunting and get really jealous over the deals you guys seem to get. also, ordering things of amazon is great but shipping here is ridiculous (around $50USD average for a few games)

Actually - our region here is PAL. My PS3 is the middle east version which is Pal (same as Australia actually) and so is my X360 - play asia tells you which games are region free or not. our blurays are the same region as well...

My Dreamcast is NTSC J so i have to use a stepdown converter...

things can be quite expensive here - the only stuff decently prices are new games...but for me i own all the new games i want and am now chasing older stuff (Neo Geo AES etc) but it looks way too expensive to get into..

I don't hate the middle east, I hate authoritarianism. It just so happens that every country over there (except maybe Turkey) is extremely authoritarian. Though even Turkey seems to be back sliding these days. As far as I can tell, there's not a country in that part of the world that's fit for a free man. Nothing personal of course.
