So when do you think the PS2 will finally just die.

I also think the graphical jump from last generation to this generation isn't as huge. Ps1 and N64 were trying to iron out how to make 3d games, and the leap was big compared to sprite based games. When you look at a ps1 game now, it looks really chunky, and the average person is proably not going to play it based on graphics alone. Whereas the ps2 still looks alright. It hit this passable level of graphics where even if the world isn't as polished, populated or lived in as a ps3 world, you still don't cringe at ratchet and clank.J T wrote:I agree. It's strange. I think its because PS2 remains so cheap, and not just the system but the games. Historically, I have always bought the newest generation of gaming systems at launch. This go around, they just seemed so expensive. That's largely because the PS2 is such a behemoth. I'm still collecting games for it and learning about things I didn't know about. It's hard to get bored with the PS2.jfrost wrote: What seems weird, though, is that it really doesn't seem that we have already made the transition to a new generation. I don't know if it's because PS2 is still around, but it really just looks as if the new generation of consoles just started, and it's been going for 3 years.
I assume the next jump in console is gong to be graphicly even less. We are going to start to measure games based on size of the world and intelligence of the AI.

I'm really surprised Sony didn't go for some re-branding of the PS2 with motion control. The general public wouldn't know the difference. They could have a new form factor and new name and say "it plays all your PS2 games!" and Joe Wal-Mart would be none the wiser.
Also, wouldn't it be smart for Sony to throw some money at a B-level developer or smaller A-level dev to come up with a game a year on the PS2?

There already is a motion controller for the PS2. I saw it in GameStop yesterday.

Ehhh... I think we're talking about a dedicated device made by Sony that could be supported by devs with an SDK. Not just a lock-on thing. That thing's pretty much a modern version of the NES U-Force.J T wrote:There already is a motion controller for the PS2. I saw it in GameStop yesterday.

I have one and it sucks for the most part and I would stay away from it. Splitfish makes a cool looking mouse controller for the PS2, 3. I don't know if its any good though. http://www.splitfish.com/?uid=i1ns5pb1ulxg2l14J T wrote:There already is a motion controller for the PS2. I saw it in GameStop yesterday.
