For me:
Anything by the Beats: (William S.) Burroughs, Ginsberg, and Kerouac, etc.
HP Lovecraft and Phillip K. Dick as well.
I'm also recently hooked on Dashiell Hammet's works.

My favourites would probably be;
A Song of Ice & Fire series by George RR Martin.
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, Curse of Lono & The Rum Diary by Hunter S Thompson.
On the Road by Jack Kerouac.
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemmingway.
The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.
Diary of a Brown Buffalo & Revolt of the Cockroach People by Oscar Zeta Acosta.
Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.
The Ring Trilogy by Koji Suzuki.
Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Books of Lankhmar by Fritz Lieber.
Brasyl by Ian McDonald.
I know i'm forgetting a ton, especially from the fantasy genre - but these are the most memorable to me.

Now if only he would get around to releasing the final book already. At this point, I probably need to go back and reread the first three. I'm not reading the fourth until the fifth is out.
Also, I'm a big fan of the Night Watch series.

To Kill a Mockingbird, Ender's Game, Dune, the Foundation Trilogy, Starship Troopers...my list goes on and on. However, gor a little retro flair, I recommenced everyone check out Microserfs. Its about a group of Microsoft employees from the early 90's that split off into their own firm. Its fictional but it still gives you as good idea of what working at MS was like back in the day.
