I own it now and it is pretty awesome. You realise that you can download and burn MegaCD games with no need to chip the console? or play it with Kega Fusion if you dont have the hardware

90% of FMV games are horrible, the epitome of style over substance. made purely as a way to make money off suckers (us innocent gamers). Even the most worthless 'traditional' computer games ever made, i.e. Homies for Nintendo DS, won't depress you as much as these sacks of crap. Think about it. Mad Dog McGree was probably filmed in 1 weekend in Nevada.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 4109300027

Okay so what
-10 "actors" working for $4 an hour.
-1 "director"
-1 college nerd to do the encoding (probably charged $300 for 30mins of work)
-1 artist to do the front cover and possibly menu's
-1 programmer to put everything together and make it a game! probably did the editing as well

then:
release it for pc.. start making money..use some of that money to invest in many other system ports
-pay 3do, sega, philips, and god knows who else for the offical licenses for cd stamping.. might be as much as $50,000 each.

long story short, it's a lot cheaper, easier, and quicker to make these POS "games" than it is to make a real one. even back then. now it's only more so, because games are huge projects now while for film, its much cheaper for quality cameras, editing is easy on sony vegas or mac, and no more expensive film (digital technology)

some FMV's at least attempted to be playable. see TomCat Alley for MegaCD (much better on Pc though. I'm running 1024x on my laptop and though it still doesn't cover 1/2 the screen.. it's clear not like the gloriously griddy sega)

edit:

my suspicions were correct. look on the botton right, under credits. 2 ****ing people listed!!

The best FMV game ever has to be Dragon's Lair.. for reasons too obvious to mention.

But I'll think about it. There might be some others. Although the definition of true FMV comes into play.

By the way whatever you consider they, Rebel Assault I & II were great games (too short though). I hadn't even watched Star Wars yet when I played them and I still enjoyed the experience. Also thought SWAT was awesome for it's time (was it 2 disks, or 4..)

Yeah I know that as games they are all pretty bad as the level of interaction is restrictingly low, but I'm interested as I've finally got my first MegaCD and while I know there are better examples of genres to play on it FMV was the flavour of the month back then and it was the reason wht I wanted one back then.

I notice in the credits for Sewer Shark there is but one programmer lol

That sure does look cheesy, thanks for the link.

I also saw this today..

..only a full on rerelease of Mad Dog Mcree. Used to love that game although like all FMV games, it was grossly unfair. Would this be the first time that the a proper arcade quality port has been available to play at home?

Well I pretty mch think the only good FMV games are Dragon's Lair I & II and Space Ace. Perhaps Cliff Hanger if you get a bit used to it.

Badlands sucks, but it has a good sense of humor.

Cliff Hanger suffers from being made from a Lupin the 3rd movie, making it really difficult, but somehow it is still fun, check it.

You'll need Daphne to play those.

You should also check Esh's Aurunmilla , I haven't tried it but it seems good.

There are plenty of good FMV games, but lots of them aren't very well known, and most of the good ones are on PC, unfortunately.
