Don't follow me to twitter nor bother to join it!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'm completely perplexed by this hatred of twitter, it just seems fuelled by recycled opinions of an incorrect stereotype, here's what I use it for - fun.

I don't update to say i'm having a bath or a shit, I don't update when i'm doing anything, I update when I think I have something interesting or funny to say, which is also what my friends do. Someone said it was like a text message, in what way? That it's the same number of characters? Because last time I checked twitter was a message out into the public domain that you want friends and people you follow to see, not a personal message to someone that costs money.

I'm sure people will just try to shoot me down for defending it, but I really don't see why they should, it's hardly a terror to their lives, people enjoy it and sometimes try to share that, I am struggling to see a well thought out argument against it.

Twitter differs critically from phone text messages in that it is a subscription/broadcast type messaging system.

Yes, but we hardly ever blog on any current events, and fortunately when we do, its on typically down-low topics, that no one is competing for anyway.

I say Twitter is like text messaging because its creator has claimed it is the SMS for the internet.

1. no. thats a horrible use. why force a client to use crap technology when they have a phone, email, etc.? its no better than leaving a post-it-note on their door, knocking it, then running away.

2. how big is your lunch group? its too hard to email? or text message?

3. why limit your search to just twitter? google is your friend. like you really need to talk about your favorite band this very second?

twitter is the solution to a question nobody asked.
Once again, you are being dumb.

1. No that's a horrible use? They don't have to use any technology. They can check your website. And internet marketers and freelancers specifically are using it to GREAT success right now. Shut the fuck up

Keep it civil Lanfear.

I like the concept of twitter in that it can be a good way of asking general questions and getting them answered in an informal manner. I hate the way it is used by EVERYONE to update/comment on utterly pointless or irrelevant shit in their lives. It's same thing with the infernal 'Status' on Facebook. No I don't care that you are "tired and have lots of work to do". Join the damn club. I equally don't care that you think "*generic pop song that's currently hyper popular* is the shiznit" or your opinions on life, the universe and everything.

Bloggers also do my head in. Yes, there's some really good blogs on the internet and some of them are interesting reads about relevant and interesting stuff. It's just that those are so rare that 99% of blogs are just glorified diaries, or cesspools of worthless opinions about pop culture. I'm not saying I could do better, I probably couldn't but that's why I don't have one.

no theyre not. ive had 7-figure online marketing budgets with some of the biggest companies in the world, and if i ever suggested twitter, i would shoot myself before they had the chance to rightfully do so. it is NOT a business tool. you might think youre all hip and junk with your social media and viral mumbo jumbo but its all a pile of crap.

tell me, and be specific, how you would track the success of a twitter campaign and be able to report on it on a monthly basis. remember, you cant quantify buzz, hype, or any social media crap. oh no, you have no numbers? then you have no clients either.
